He was up by 9, and when i say up i mean roughly upright, with no accurate control over his body. If Bute wasn't so far ahead it would have been expected to be stopped before the knockdown, as he was in fairy land and beyond exhaustion before the KD.

The ref was doing his best to find a way to lengthen the count, and he succeeded. If the ref had been objective all fight and then ****ed it up, it would be nowhere near as bad, as it would just be an incompetent mistake, as opposed to a self-aware helping hand to one particular fighter.

Bute was barely up by 8, and in no condition to participate in a boxing match by 10 (22), the only reason why it went on was because he was ahead on points big time and because there was ****all time left, and because he was the hometown boy. But as the book goes that should not be the main influence on the refs decision.

The time clerk should have rang the bell when Bute was up. But he wasnt aware of the IBF rules. He was waiting for the ref to call the end of the fight.

If the time clerk do the job...

Good work by the ref. Andrade did not stay in his corner.

I agree that there should be a rematch, but not due to the count that was administered. The need for a rematch stems from the fact that it was a hell of a fight, and from the fact that a strong case could be made for stopping the fight when Bute was reeling about the ring. i can see both sides of the argument, but I think the nature of the last round, in particular, means that a rematch is likely to occur....and should occur as well.

As for the count...in terms of how it was administered, that was done by the book. Andrade was a) slow in going to the neautral corner, and b) wandered out of the corner during the count. In any event, Bute hit the mat with two seconds left, and was up before the ten count had elapsed. The bell rang, so all he had to do was to provide an indication to the referee that he was willing and able to continue (which was done when he raised his hands during the count.)

So, as far as Andrade being robbed of a victory, I think the case that could be made for that argument stems less from the knockdown itself, but rather from the minute or so that preceded it.

One quick edit: On my personal count, Bute was up at eight, while others may state that he was down for ten seconds. But, again, it's the official's count that takes precedence, and Bute was up on his feet before that had even been completed.

Yep, the bell should ring if the fighter is up and no more time.

Yeah...my bad...thought it did. Still, three minutes had elapsed by that point, so it should have rung.

He was defensless so 1 punch could have done major damage to him. The ref cant let a defenless man continue even if there are only 2 seconds left because thats enough time to deliver 1 blow.
