I counted wrong - it's only 7.

 

Olin, Loughran, Walker, Baer, Sharkey, Delaney, and Berlenbach are the names I've got. It would be easy to count a champion like Loughran twice when combing Johnny's record, and maybe a trick of the eyes would cause a name like Godwin to be mistakenly added on. As far as I can determine, your math is correct.

 

Lew Feldman is another one that beat 8, BUT he fought for a title.

 

And Brian Nielsen is another who beat 8... though he of course isn't the one you have in mind!
