[yt]aGFdNeLrd1M[/yt] Posting this for the occasion...(since wandy recently defeated Jardine) Ironically , Wandy is the guy who almost killed twice today's UFC lhw champion (quinton jackson) , is also the guy who owned Jardine faster than Houston Alexander did. (wandy = 36 seconds for the finish ) Maybe styles make fights. Probably but at the same time i'm not convinced that wandy would automatically lose a rematch against chuck nor am i 100% certain that wandy would beat jackson in a 3rd fight... Nonetheless...I have 3 remarks about that fight (wandy vs chuck).. 1 wandy seemed much more hesitant. (though he still landed some punches of his own too) 2 I don't know how many times Liddell was knocked down but wandy wasn't doing much each time that would happen... 3 which brings me to UFC's rules... It's incredible how those changes can affect the general opportunities / outcome of a fight. Under pride fc , Liddell woulda been bombarded with soccer kicks to the face or simply kneed on the ground. (but under ufc's rules , it's strictly banned )... I'm not saying that wanderlei would've won "for sure" under different conditions. Just noting that wanderlei is forced to fight differently...and most of his trademark moves are useless in the octagon...a real shame. I'd love to see a rematch though.
Even with the rules, that doesn't explain Wanderlei's general unwillingness to try and swarm on Liddell when he went down - like he did with Jardine.
Sometimes you can respect your opponent too much; or you're energy and that of the setting can adversely affect how you fight. Even for a vet like Silva.
Kinda weird how Wanderlei destroys Liddell conquers Jardine and Rampage while Chuck takes cause of guys who beat Wanderlei like Ortiz and Belfort.
There's a time and place for everything. Even with the past taken into account, Wandy would not easily run through Rampage now. Jackson has improved since his PRIDE days... while Jardine is one of those guys who can look great one night and get thumped the next. Plus, Tito Ortiz is made to order for Chuck as is Belfort. Styles is the key here. Styles and timing.
Agree with everything; very educated post.:good But at the heart of the matter, I would have to pick Quinton Jackson over Wanderlei Silva at this point, even considering how good Silva looked. He did look good against a good opponent in Jardine, but Jardine IS one of the most hot/cold fighters I've seen in MMA since... Belfort??! Anyway, though Silva annihilated Jackson twice years ago, I just don't think the fight would be the same now. Silva is more boxing oriented than he was then, and Jackson's boxing has improved dramatically with Juanito. Jackson is also stronger and overall a more well-rounded talent. I would pick Jackson, but Silva, as always, would have the puncher's chance.
Wand was too nervous and lacking a bit of confidence for the fight with Chuck. Two terrible KO losses back to back and the first time he fought in the UFC in years did him in. Plus all the Pride guys coming over and getting beaten or looking bad. Including Shogun. He still took the fight though. Wandy could get KTFO by George Foreman and Peter Aerts back to back and he'd still take his next fight with king Kong. That's why i love this guy. This is a guy who was prepared to fight Cro Cop and Barnett or Big Nog in the same night. He also had a bad gameplan for the fight by the way.
Precisely- I picked Wanderlei Silva that night, based on the fact that I thought he was going to kick Liddel's legs!!! But no kicks- he didn't even use the thai-boxing that made him so sucessful!!! Basically, he boxed with Liddel, and lost because of it. It was a close, good match, but I think he did himself a great diservice not using any kicks. :good
But he was too hesitant Jimmie. Wandy need's to go balistic on guys and overwhelm them. Wandy is much harder to figure out when he fight's like "The Axe Murderer" than people give him credit for. That bad KO loss to Cro Cop, illness and fighting in the US for the first time in years had him off his game in the rematch with Hendo. Plus don't forget that when they first fought Hendo was a green MMA fighter and had never foguht a striker like Wand before. Since then Hendo has improived a lot as a striker and even in the firts fight Hendo hurt Wand bad. Wand knew what type of power Hendo carried in his punches and that Cro Cop loss was still bothering him. Then of course he get's KTFO badly again against Hendo and has to see Shogun get beaten by Griffin, a load of other Pride guys come over and look bad or lose, then fight the biggest star in the UFC in his own backyard. This is why i love this guy. He will fight ANYONE no matter what! He's a rare breed of fighter and i hope he's around for a couple more years and turns back the clock! I want Wand to go Jardine on everyones ass from now on. Wand will win a lot more than he looses if he brings out "The Axe MNurdere" everytime. I want new MMA fans who still hav'nt seen what Wand is really all about to get know him VERY well. :!: :deal
I think it woudl have been different if Wand had that Jardine win under his belt and another good win. I thought Jardine laid down the blue print on how to beat Chuck but Wand may have had even more success with his own style if he was more confident and went at Chuck Like an animal. :huh
Tbh i think Jacksons boxing has been very good for years. I dont think it's improved that much as i think he's always showed those skills. People say that Juanito has "grealty" imprved his boxing but i don't believe that. Hels improved it alright, but not greatly. It still did'nt stop wand from setting up the KO in the rematch with a punch!
Fair enough. But I think Jackson is a little more well-rounded, and stronger. I also would say he has gained confidence within himself and his camp (your guess is as good as mine, I just think his recent sucess does his psyche good). As for Silva, with a vintage HL reel KO under his belt, a Jackson-Silva III fight would be HUGE in a year or so. Obviously, Jackson still has to get by Forest Griffin. I think he will. :bbb
Honestly I think it's just a case of styles making fights. I think Chuck always has the edge on Wandy. What I'm more curious to find out is whether or not Wandy holds that same edge over Rampage, or if Rampage is truly a changed fighter now working with Juanito and fighting in the cage.
