I see no real change, he's not the most exciting fighter to watch or that popular when it comes to people watching him on TV. I think Wales will miss his fights, the rest of us arent going to lose any sleep over him leaving the sport.

ESB won't be the same. Look how hated and loved he is in equal measure. See all the ducking threads. Some guys have insane man love for him and will contemplate forum life.

I really hate to see Calzaghe retire.

There will still be good fights between people like Kessler, Pavlik, and AA. It wont be that big of a loss to see Calzaghe hand em up. In fact it might be better so he leaves with an undefeated record. Although he is going to fight RJJ in November so his record may not be perfect. :smoke

Who really knows if he'll retire after Jones. I'm still hoping for him to remember where he left his balls, and sign to fight Pavlik.:happy

I can't believe how unappreciated Calzaghe is on this forum. Even Kessler gets more recognition despite the fact that he did lose.

There is alot of talent around SMW(MW, SMW, LHW), but most are somewhat disappointing to me.

These things can change, but here is my disappointment list:
    (in no particular order)

    1) Froch (despite being undefeated, he hasn't strived to move anywhere. Have tried to get in the ring with Inkin twice to no avail)
    2) Inkin (likewise undefeated, but trodding quicksand, and have walked twice from matches with Froch)
    3) Dawson (the crown prince of LHW, but after Adamek, he has only taken on one somewhat difficult fight; Johnson, an old roadwarrior)
    4) Mundine (despite being WBA champ, he hasn't done anything since beating Green. Being stripped because he refused to face Kessler(as far as I know at least))
    5) AA (It was okay, that he met Miranda once again, but it's a bad notch in the axe, that he didn't put the title on the line, weak. Needs to do more in the future, and Pavlik soon is a must).
    6) Jeff Lacy (okay, said to be suffering from an arm injury, but wth, going nowhere since the loss to Calzaghe)

I really want others than Kessler to do something around SMW, but most haven't done half in the last 2 years). As I see it, only Pavlik and Calzaghe haven't fallen through. Bute has done okay, but needs soon to do more.

I would like to see Calzaghe have taken on Kessler in Copenhagen or the US (he can still do so as Kessler wants a rematch). Alternatively, he could meet Bute in Montreal. Bute may be a little too green. Hopkins was old and everyone know that Hopkins's only chance was to spoil the fight because he had no chance of winning a boxing match against one of the most active boxers in boxing by boxing. Holding and spiling was his only chance to at least try to make it seem even.

Alternatively Joe could even take on Mundine in Melbourne.

Well, I guess that what I am saying is that I would have liked to see Calzaghe take on the best away from home. Unfortunately we will never see that (only chance I have not mentioned is Pavlik - and that may happen - let's hope so) from Calzaghe. Joe is clever and knows his boundaries. He knew very well that he had to take on Kessler at home and rely on the difference in experience in front of 60.000 fans. He also knew that he could meet Hopkins abroad and still win. I would like Joe to take a few chances and not be so calculating.

With that said, I don't think we can demand it of Joe since many Americans won't travel either so there is no reason why Joe should have to. It would just cement his already exceptional carreer if he took some chances. Kessler was a chance (even at home) and Hopkins was a chance (mostly because it was abroad). But Kessler or Pavlik abroad would be nice. Pavlik may still happen.

If Pavlik happens he will have to stop Joe. Kessler may win a rematch in Copenhagen on points since he would only need to win two or three more rounds than he did in Wales and I think he could do that. Pavlik's style is not one that will beat Joe on points I think, but it maybe Joe would get KOed as Kelly hits hard and in my estimation harder than Kessler.
