Indirectly Douglas' life changing chance came when Jose Ribalta, penciled in for a Tokyo rematch with Tyson, had a shocker with Jeff Sims; while Douglas on the same bill, looked solid beating Oliver McCall; hence DKP rubbed out Ribalta and gave Douglas the shot.

Azumah Nelson's title bout against WBC Featherweight Champion Salvador Sanchez on July 21 1982. Nelson was a last minute replacement for WBC no.1 ranked Mario Miranda of Colombia that night in Madison Square Garden. Azumah gave a great account of himself, even with 14 bouts under his belt. Sanchez decked Nelson in round 7, had him staggered on several occasions, then stopped him in round 15. Nelson's career took off from their, later became a Featherweight champion himself, a legendary fighter.
