Life's Lessons From Froch

Froch's has really opened his eyes since the loss to kessler, just what some fighters need

 

Froch has always been a bit of a nervous guy prefight but before kessler he was moaning too much and to bitter about his lack of recognition and shite promotion, having to go to denmark etc.

now hes focusing on his boxing and understanding that all the rest will follow should he keep performing hes doing better

 

Ben Dirs is a really good writer: He does a lot of their cricket coverage, but def seems to be a boxing fan as well, and has done a few really quality articles.

He does have a very silly name though.

 

ive not read his stuff for a couple of years but his boxing stuff used to be horrendous: he was obviously the guy nominated by the Beeb to cover boxing as he had no clue whatsoever.

 

This is why Froch has had continued success as of late. Despite his bravado, he's well aware of his stylistic deficiences and strives to improve. He's smart, and his trainer gives him the right advice. We've seen improvements throughout his last few fights, proving his worth right at the top with five tough fights in a row with top ten opposition, going, pretty much 3-2(1), but officially 4-1(1). He's got momentum, and I'm glad he knows not to trade with Johnson on the inside, that's the one stylistic thing that swings in Johnsons favour, the ability to outwork Froch with his head in his chest.

Froch should use his odd angled jab and mix his shots up to body and head well. Don;t go for the stoppage, but be steady. As good as Johnson is, and experienced and wiley as he is, Dawson and Cloud are hardly old school and they beat him. Johnson has a respectacle dig, but he isn't knocking Frochy out. He's from the school of Bernard Hopkins, the 90s fighters were a skilled bunch with a lot of depth, but he isn't in that calibre as a fighter He's a perennial contender, not an ageing master.

So Carl has got to keep it steady and box him, bomb him at times but econimically. Have a tear up at times when there are opportunities to land telling blows, not because you're willing to welcome someone simply because your admire their machismo.

 

Ben Dirs is (or was) a horrific boxing writer. Although this is ok it's pretty much Froch speaking here. If normally dont read BBC boxing stories, because I've seen the tripe he's written before.

 

I like what Froch is saying about wanting to box Johnson like he did Abraham and not go out all guns blazing warrior style.

It's entertaining watching him go out fighting like that but the way he beat Abraham was so satisfying.

 

Ogogo needs to get a grip if they're the two things that stand out as inspiring.

 

The BBC don't take boxing seriously. Unless a British fighter is involved, or a fight happens that is simply too big to ignore, they don't give most fights any coverage at all. They obviously pick writers like Ben Dirs based on their writing skills and ability to engage an audience, and not their knowledge of boxing. Ironically, their TV sports coverage involves a lot of knowledgable former pro's that can't present or interview for **** (with the odd exception).
