Lifting weights will damage you in the Long Run...DON'T DO IT!

    I've only been doing push ups once a week for the past few months, doing multiple sets/variations of 15-20 reps for a total of 100-120 total reps. Think I associated "push up day" with "chest day" in lifting and felt content doing it just once a week. Think I read in another thread that push ups/pull ups/chin ups aren't really the same as lifting weights so it's okay to do them on consecutive days without "rest days". This true?

    Yes, but ideally, you should do bodyweight excercises like you do weights.

    Once a week is fine, but you should probably also find a day to do handstand push ups as well.

    And when you do push ups don't think of it as an endurance excercise. Do them slowly, and you don't need that many sets.

    And if they become too easy, find ways to make them more difficult.

    I disagree. A microtear is a microtear. Your body still needs at least 24 hours to recover from any serious exercise.

    Serious exercise-when you are working out u are constantly serious,and do not smile whatsoever.

    Weights tend to use unnatural movement pattern's; however, I will say that dumbbells are probably much better for you than barbells. Dumbbells allow more flexibility.

    Regardless, I don't think loading the spine with 400 lbs 2 or 3 times a week is doing much benefit to your joints in the long run.

    The **** are you talking about when you say joints? Are you saying that weights are going to wear down cartilage? Weights stiffen the muscle and connective tissue around a joint so they prevent injury, things like running that involve impact and shearing forces cause injury to cartilage. Weights compress, that's not dangerous unless shearing forces are involved by using poor technique.
    Also the **** do you mean by unnatural movement pattern?

    Like the barbell benchpress for instance. It is notorius for giving athletes shoulder injuries.

    Or any type of barbell shoulder press for that matter. The elbows are flared out which is unnatural.

    To be honest, if I were to lift weights, I would only consider a kettleball at this point.

    I've been lifting weights on and off for 6 years and have never injured myself. If use proper form it won't happen. Obviously its different if you're a powerlifter etc.

    Besides everything we do in life comes with a small risk in one way or another. You could just as easily pull a muscle doing plymoterics.

    Shoulder injuries when doing bench press once again comes down to bad form or lack of knowledge. When loading more and more heavy wieght on bench one strengthens the chest and front shoulders. Many times the person will ingnore the upper back and rear shoulder muscles and these muscles will give over time when the person ads heavier and heavier wieght the his bench causing injury.

    Why not do calesthenics and lift wieghts? Calesthenics cant do what wieghts do just like weights cant do what calesthenics do. Two different types of exercises two different types of results.

    It ALL goes to techniques weight frequency diet etc
