Meh. He recovered being knocked down against Kovalev but I've never been impressed by how he handled the Golovkin business. He was the wrong gender of dog there ;)

Regardless, stylistically he matches up terribly against Marciano who is going to simply maul him up close. Rocky is wrong for him in almost every aspect. If he even took the fight I'd be shocked.

Ward would've jumped at a real opportunity to fight GGG or Canelo.

Ward simply knew his way around a ring. He was mentally strong enough and well rounded enough to employ whatever game plan would work in his favor. There's a reason why his last loss came at something like age 13. Boxing isn't a style contest.

Modern Light Heavyweights would probably enter the ring outweighing Rocky Marciano. With that said, I do not see any light heavyweight, past or present, who I would favor to defeat prime Rocky Marciano.

To me: Spinks kicks his ass bad, he took shots of Gerry Cooney/Holmes/Qawi and was tough and skilled as anyone ever in his LHW prime. Qawi too tough and technical and hits too hard and would be the same size, doubt Rock packs a punch like Foreman (Qawi was on the downside when they fought). Jones Jr. would probably stop him, and if it "goes late" it's not gonna happen for Rock, Jones would move on him and win. Toney would bust him up and outfight him on the inside and not get hit with a big midrange bomb, prob looks like the Jirov fight to me. It is not inconceivable that many LHWs give him problems.

I don't find it malicious to suggest that these great fighters could beat another great fighter of the same size who has a worse resume.

Marciano fought so infrequently at the top level that one of his main historical attributes is the controlled flow of evidence. You can build a good argument for him to beat any LHW ever, but I'm not convinced there aren't 10 LHWs who would give him serious troubles. It's only ten lbs, which the LHWs would just not cut and be the same size if not bigger. Real LHWs from his actual time gave Rocky issues, past their best aswell.

Spinks has a good shot, but he should come in at 190-200 pounds. He has more weight to put behind his punches. In fact, it might be good for him to come in at the 208 pounds he came in for Cooney.

At first glance I thought you wrote -Ward had a hot dog in him. I almost liked your comment. Its a good thing I reread it.

Ezzard Charles, Billy Conn, Sam Langford and Gene Tunney.

Loughran could give him a tough fight.
