if we take the top 175 pounds chad dawson Zsolt Erdei glen johnson jean pascal cabriel campillo roy jones jurgen brahmer traver note....i did not put in belbut shumenov because even though he is possibly the future of the divison, he is still to inexperienced.... also i did not put in hopkins because he travels from one weight class to the next.....does not stay in one for long time here are my first round match ups.... dawson vs brahmer.....my pick....dawson in a hard fight....dawson should win but i think brahmer would have a good chance..... Zsolt Erdei vs roy jones.....my gut feeling is Erdei would win unless old school roy shows up...but erdei is fav glen johnson vs jean pascal.....johnson wins in a nice war....ends up taking the more raw pascal apart cabriel campillo vs travier.....travier by a decison....campillo is the unpreditable factor in the tournment i think a tournment like this would be excellent and would have some great fights.....i am not sure who would in the end...possibly dawson but i think erdei will be the surprise of the tournment.... your picks and ideas
Are you serious? Erdei? Even old roy SR would beat zsolt. And brahmer have a chance against dawson? A chance to not leave the ring on a stretcher. Dude, beating some hungarian and having a close fight with garay does not make a competitve fight with the best lightheavy on earth. And yes, i do agree that GJ takes out the careless pascal. If froch beat him i'm sure glen would too.
yes i do think erdei would have a chance against roy, i liked roy's last fight but lets face it lacy is shot....and roy is not what he once was.... erdei is unbeaten and it is hard to tell how good he is, but at this point of roy's career a good fresh fighter could do the trick and brahmer is a good fighter, when i mean he has a chance, i mean a very small one. and 40 year olds are very competitive with dawson, they are very good 40's year olds but still
Without hopkins , because of the reasons you mentioned + he won't agree to participate , the top 8 lightheavies are : 1. Chad Dawson 2. Antonio Tarver 3. Glen Johnson 4. Winner of Woods vs. Cloud 5. Roy Jones (mostly because of nostalgic and historic reasons) 6. Shumenov (he has about the same quality oposition as Joe Calzaghe) 7. Campillo (I don't believe he stands much of a chance , but he earned it) 8. whoever it turns from these : Chris Henry , Yussaf Mack , Vyacheslav Uzelkov , Garay . I think Dawson wins it but Johnson and Shumenov also have a chance and if Cloud stops woods convincingly (not by cuts/headbutt) then maybe i'll think that he also has some chance. I think that much more interesting than this tounament is simply to regard the winner of Dawson/Johnson vs. the Winner of Woods/Cloud As a temporary lightheavy champ , and his challenger should come from a Garay-Shumeonv-Campillo-Uzelkov elimination. I also think that Tarver will (or at least a favorite to) beat anyone mentioned here except Dawson , so for me he is a permanent #2 unless someone here continously beats the rest or convincingly beats Tarver (serious stoppage/clear victory+knockdowns). so an easy/quick way to regard someone as a threat to Dawson is if he achieves the above against Tarver.
why no pascal or erdei in your tourment, i am sure they belong there much more then garay or mack lol
