Michael Spinks would probably have trouble with Schmeling -- and I've always been a Michael Spinks fan - because Schmeling was faster than the guys Spinks was beating at heavyweight and Michael's knees were kind of a train wreck by the time he moved up. Michael moved quicker than a pretty stationary Holmes and a slow C00ney ... but Max wasn't slow. And Max was the harder puncher.

It would have to be someone more rugged who could take it.

Among light heavyweights, maybe a James Toney. But probably only on the night Toney beat Holyfield. That was clearly his best performance at the weight. Against everyone else, when Toney was a fat slob, Schmeling would outpoint him.

Frankly, I don't see too many light heavys beating a prime Schmeling.

    Michael Moorer would lose.

Just a poor idiot would buy this theory" schmeling saw the low guard of Louis and it was his plan" it was a lucky punch and then Luis got hurt and max did hit him once and again with the same punch. Period

"he did beat also better men"

    Than Louis?

    That is certainly disputable.

Actually, I think Schmeling did a lot more at heavyweight, Louis aside.

There is film of Schmeling being interviewed after watching Louis, asked if he had learnt anything for their up-coming fight he said,"yes I see something , but I won't tell what it is". Though Klompton could have refrained from going in in his usual "gangbusters scornful style " he is correct with his appraisal here

    It's pretty well documented.

I was just about to post that i have film of schmeling before the louis fight saying this but mcvey beat me to it. If you really want to characterize it as a lucky punch or even the three lucky punches you have backpeddled to then i would suggest you watch the fight because you clearly havent. Schmeling landed that same punch over and over, every round over the course of 12 rounds. The mental gymnastics it takes to convince yourself that was luck is beyond belief.

Yes it was that schmeling said... And was jack johnson who saw his "weak point" i have been a documentary about that.but still i think that it was a lucky punch, not a perfect punch under the rules of a plan. He landed it and then Louis was drunk. From that point all was easy job

    Well sorry you're wrong.
Schmeling was prepared to take Louis's jab then, when he did not return it to the correct guard position ,counter over the top of it with his right hand, and it worked like a charm.
Max ended up with one eye nearly closed from that piston jab . Joe with a big swelling on his cheek and his superman aura blown to smithereens.

There used to be a great film breakdown of Louis Schmeling on YouTube I wonder if it's still available. It will conclusively show a lot more work and preparation went into Schmeling's plan than landing a lucky punch. The plan took great footwork and standing in harms way for long stretches of the fight. It's excellent stuff. Here is Max in HD glory.

Yeah i believe that every boxer have a plan but in the ring "all the plan goes to the hell" and you have to improvise. You can show 100 vídeos.. It is still your opinión against mine
