I was there that night. My hands are still sore from clapping. Like everyone else, I thought Saad was finished but he could come back from the grave probably better than anyone. Was there ever a better fighter that was always about 2 seconds away from getting stopped but would turn the tables better than Saad? Little red would get hurt and knocked down, but he just didn't seem to be on the brink the way Saad would get.
Thanks, this is one of the few fights mentioned where I don't recognise both of the names. What was Richie Kates like as a fighter? Thanks
I always thought Sosa vs Williams was at 168 for some reason. Ridiculoud fight, they both must have landed around 50% of there punches thrown
You may be right there. Williams was always a Lt Heavy but he did drop down to 168 to fight Toney around that time and Sosa fought a fair bit at 168 too. Still it was one of the most brutal fights you could see, just bombs away and stuff defense. Awesome viewing.
Both Saad-Johnson fights. Letterlough-Gonzalez. Saad-Lopez II Murphy-Mutti Moore-Durelle Spinks-Lopez

Re: Johnson-Pastrano I love this fight. Not a slugfest but it's absolutely beautiful to watch. I thought Johnson won but alas... Has anyone mentioned Foster and Chris Finnegan. Much more enjoyable than the usual Foster blow out. A great fight is Jose Torres and Eddie Cotton. Just two guys trading punches.
Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Yaqui Lopez II is on a short list of most exciting fights I've ever seen with the like of Chacon vs Limon & Boza Edwards and Hagler-Hearns.
Can't go wrong with any Saad or Moore fights. Along with Pastrano-Johnson which has been said earlier and Johnson-Ezzard Charles
