Murrays Sentence Increased from 10 to 25 Years This content is protected Tuesday, November 30, 2010 by Mike Whitman ( This content is protected ) 28471 Former UFC competitor and convicted bank robber Lee Murray (Pictured) on Tuesday had his prison sentence increased from 10 to 25 years. Murray, 33, was originally sentenced to 10 years in June for participating in the Securitas bank robbery in 2006. Originally from London, Murray and several accomplices held the Securitas manager and his family hostage while they robbed the premises. Meanwhile, the gang bound 14 employees with cable ties and threatened to kill them if they did not follow orders. The former London Shootfighters product was named as the plans architect by other members of his gang. The British fighter fled to Morocco following the heist, in which £53 million ($77 million) were stolen, and was arrested by authorities in the North African country. Five men total were convicted on kidnapping, robbery and firearm charges in 2008. An appeal against the length of Murrays sentence was dismissed at a hearing Tuesday. As a fighter, Murray racked up nine wins in his five years as a professional. His one and only appearance in the UFC came against Jorge Rivera at UFC 46. Murray submitted El Conquistador with a triangle-armbar combination. His last appearance in the cage came against Anderson Silva in 2004, as he lost a unanimous decision to the future UFC champion at Cage Rage 8. Perhaps more famous than his in-ring exploits are Murrays real-world escapades. Aside from the aforementioned robbery, Murray allegedly took part in a street fight with then UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz in in 2002. Three years later, Murray was stabbed outside a London nightclub, suffering a punctured lung and a severed artery. The fighter was reportedly resuscitated four times during his life-saving operation.
