Toney is 209? With one foot on the scale maybe. He talks it but he was shite against Fatboy Peter who was made to look like a fool against Vitlay. Toney, your chin might keep you in a fight with Vitlay but you definitely can't hurt him. We know you need money to satsfy those hunger pangs that happen everytime you take a breath, but don't make us watch you get a beatdown from a real HW.

But I guess we will see next month.

Too bad they don’t show that fight in TV.

There was a recent picture of him posted in another thread. He was wearing a shirt, but he looked in pretty good shape - his face wasn't fat anymore. 209 sounds about right.

I worry that the reduced weight at his age may not be a good thing - I keep thinking about what happened to Chris Byrd after he dropped all of that weight.

He can be 9 pounds, it won't change anyting. The guy is past it and obviously older than before and back then he was losing to Peter twice and going life and death with Rahman which the majority scored for Rahman.

Other reports have confirmed that he has dropped a lot of weight and been in the gym for a long time. (see also other threads on the ESB Forum)

Like his manager said, he may be be 209 and come in between 215-220. Bottom line is, Toney has worked himself in his best physical condition, whether that is enough to make a significant impact another question.

This is the same dude who said in the same interview that the Klitschkos have ducked him for six years.

You be the judge of the man's credibility.

I don't think it can be argued that James Toney has dropped weight and is in shape because other reports have confirmed this.

Toney knows this is his last shot. I am glad to see that he will fight again after Greek this year because Greek is a bum and not a worthy opponent.

So Holyfield, Ruiz, Guinn, Rahman and Peter aren't real HWs?

The Greek fight will give us further prove about his physique and conditioning. Besides that, Toney vs. Greek won't prove much... Toney should stay active against the best possible opponents after this fight.

To be honest, I don't believe Toney currently is 209lbs. Like he himself said, he's at the weight he was when he faced Holyfield - but that was 217lbs, not 209lbs. His own trainer/manager indirectly said that the 209lbs James claimed should be taken with a grain of salt. Toney probably said that to gain some attention.

However, the bottom line is that it seems clear that Toney has finally dropped some weight and is taking his training seriously for once. At his age, he shouldn't lose too much weight either - like another poster said, we don't wanna have another Chris Byrd drama. I always said that Toneys ideal weight at HW is 215lbs, so if he can make 220lbs I guess that's ok. He's probably at 220lbs now, but we simply can't know for sure until he weighs in in september.

Agreed. The Greek fight will prove that he is in shape.Another fight this year against a better opponent will show how competitive he still is.But I have to say I am not happy with this Greek choice of opponent.

To me, all the reports are prove enough that Toney is in shape even though some haters here disagree. The real question is: How good can Toney still be while being in top shape?

I disagree. I believe the 209 weight is accurate. Arthur just wanted to make sure that the expectations regarding his weight are not too high as it is not unsusual that Toney adds some pounds come fight night.

Well, you're probably right about that.
However, which other HWs out there have a realistic chance to beat the Klitschkos at this point? The only guys I can think of right now are Povetkin and Chambers, and even these two have to be considered huge underdogs. I don't think an in shape Toney would do any worse than Sam Peter, Rahman or a Chagaev did in the ring against the Klits - which, I have to admit, wasn't much at all.

But personnally, I want to see Toney ride off into the sunset with another big fight, maybe even a title fight - and title fights means facing one of the Klitschkos, since the WBA has it's own separate set of eternal contenders (Ruiz, Chagaev...). If Toney has anything left, maybe, only maybe there will be another good fight for him down the road, and maybe even a decent performance against a Klitschko.
