Sorry to disappoint you Antsu, especially considering that we are both lifelong Toney fans: I saw Toney on a recent video on you tube and have to admit that he looked GROSSLY out of shape: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC-OzBOrn-Y[/ame] Having followed Toney by since the mid 90s, and having seen every single bid of video of him available on the net, I can tell you that he is weighing at least 260lbs on that clip... Showing up in this kind of shape 3 weeks before a fight is clearly a slap in the face to his loyal fans. I did hope that Toney could have maneuvered himself in some kind of shape, but I seriously doubt that James cares enough about being a boxer anymore... Let's still hope for the best, but one thing is for sure: should James Toney, especially now after his UFC disaster, fail to impress at boxing against a sub par opponent like Reed, lights will finally go out for him.
I say he should start training and teaching his style of boxing. I don't know if he has the temperment or speaking skills to make it work, however. When the fighter is constantly saying to himself "Why the **** is James yelling at me and why is the only word I can make out 'mother****er' ?"
He did lose a lot of mine in the last couple of years. Was a fan in his (S)MW days until his bit scrappy LHW days, but since James has become a HW that respect slowly slipped away. Right now he's not even a shadow of his former self, and he's as delusional as they come. He needed to retire many years ago, look at was has become of the guy :-(
His time has been over for some time now... He has become an angry fat man, who cannot accept the facts. Toney is just looking for money at this point...
No. They made decision to drop him in his number 8 position because he signed to UFC. After he stopped his MMA venture they should have give him his ranking back. Basicly they stopped the match just because technicality Why is supporting my favorite boxer considered trolling. Aren’t you the guy who is making Klitchko **** sucking and Haye hate threads week after week? Hmm he does look heavy, but maybe he will get back in the fighting shape by keeping active. He should be able to destroy Reed, even if he comes 240lbs in the fight night. Still he is little dissapointing shape
Antsu, I agree but Toney hasn't had a career plan in a long time. This is due to his lack of discipline and him being too proud to fight on lower non tv cards at this point of his career. It's clear that the best thing for him to do would be fighting lesser opponents to schrugg the ring rust off while getting lighter. However Toney has lost patience and desire to do so...
I was hoping James would retire. I am not too excited about seeing him fight anymore.I know he is a great friend of my favorite fighter Thomas Hearns, and I am sure Tommy Hearns wants to see him fight again, but I do not.
