Its supposed to be Duran-Whitaker :fire Duran will win this by a landslide

Well Duran is the better boxer, better defense, rangier with an actual jab and a more compact and better puncher. It would be a backburner of a fight but those talents will bring Duran clearly out on top, he might even do the unthinkable and stop Armstrong because Armstrong would be coming right at him and would be there to be picked apart.

Duran Clear UD or Late KO

I'm picking Armstrong by hard-fought decision in a war. It's a tough call, especially with so little film on the guy, but i think he's more skilled than given credit for in this thread. His body of work is amazing.

I realize that here on ESB it's not really allowed to pick someone over Duran, unless it's a superheavyweight or unless he had stomach cramps, but so be it.

    Armstrong UD15.

Hammerin Hank was def a man of his times, truly remarkable:deal My father raved about him & used too bait me saying Duran would never cope with Hanks engine.

Flea & other's on else here have covered it comprehensivly & all i'll add is that the 74 De Jesus/Duran may have found himslf on the deck once or even twice early on but would have then adapted too mid range & pulled out a close U/D or S/D but i't could have gone either way & no complaints

But with the 78 version of Duran i could see Hank being well & truly hammered down the stretch, Duran was far too versatile & would have picked Hank apart & possible got the TKO but either way you'd get the loonie fringe screaming for boxing too be banned after these 2 had finished with each other:smoke

Your standing in criticizing me about Roy Jones just dropped precipitously, old friend. Sort of like the decision that Armstrong would here.

Armstrong: Hell on wheels personified. Underrated skills. Strength enhanced by leverage to match Duran inside.

Duran. He'd come out with maximum tesosterone, pissed that the press celebrated Armstrong's superior "fighting" ability. Duran would try to match Armstrong's aggression and relentlessness ....and although it would be perhaps the most exhilerating rounds in history, Duran would fail to prove his superior fighting ability against this one.

But Duran's got a Plan B: Here come the skills. He'd inject doctoral levels skills into his aggression. He'd counter Hank, spin off and use his exemplary defense. Late in the fight, it would be a Duran clinic and he'd take a close decision.

What people would talk about was how the great Duran was outfought early on and how shocking that was.

The punch to look out for; counter right uppercut that Duran targeted masterfully to the body.

I am predudiced to Duran because he was from my era and I thought he was the greatest of the 70's and 80's...still in reality Armstrong did not fight for the jr titles he went from Feather to Lightweight to welter to Middle....very compettive fight...It could go either way...forced to pick, I think Duran could box and punch and at the lightweight to welter he was hard to beat. I pick him to edge but a tough one.

this is a difficult one.. both of them are incredible fighters and every outcome is possible.
but if i have to bet my life on it or a lot of money i would go for duran. i think he has a little more agression and a little more the will to win. also his sheer power is a bit better i believe. but i woildn't make a small bet on it way to difficult. i would say duran chance to win is about 65%.

One of the greatest & hardest to call mythical fights ever (Mike Tyson`s personal favourite fight for what its worth), this would undoubtedly end in a split razor thin contraversial fight.

I think it would be even inside, possibly Armstrong`s activity enabling him to have the edge, I feel Duran can build points better from the outside, I dont know if his pride will let him shy away from a war tho, its a toss-up but I`ll say.....

Duran SD15 Armstrong (as I give him the benefit of the doubt & assume he will box smartly when possible)

wow what a fight for the TOURNAMENT, not the TORNAMENT sorry to be a dick head

    anyway what a battle.

I like Duran and Armstrong coming out like too Bulls stampeding out looking to run over anything in there paths the only thing is they run into each other. I think Armstrongs relentless pressure and stamina out fight Duran early in some of the best rounds in history. Armstrongs just landing more and maybe pushing Duran back once or twice.

Duran knowing he's getting out fought shows his greater versatility and starts to 'box' Armstrong and just shows his variety in the midst of a still raging battle. Furious even. Duran edges the mid rounds this way as the battle intensifies but Duran shows his superior skillset and uses it.

Armstrong knowing the fight is in the balance in these last rounds ups the tempo even more forcing the fight to try and get the decision whereas Durans boxing is in full stream using his feints buetifully to set up counters then punish the advancing Armstrong with superbly executed counters that would drop a lesser man. Armstrong keeps soldiering forward and take 1 or 2 rounds of these final 5 through workrate but Duran is ultimatly in controll.

A very close but clear UD for Duran 9-6 seems about right

True ,but,Armstrong was a fine body puncher and ,as Dundee said about Duran, " he doesnt do his work on the board" ,ie situps.I feel the volume of work Armstrong would maintain could,[I say could], slow Duran down as the fight progresses. In truth Its a pickem for me.
