So calzaghe who is known for volume punching can only score 26 more punches against hopkins than jones, who has always been a selective puncher, against a 43 year old bhop? They were wrong for trying to take away from RJJ, whos punches were way more effective and accurate.

LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN SAYS...all you guys from across the pond who cling to Calzaghe's nuts like he's the best boxer of all time.

This guy & his style is a disgrace & I'm ****in getting sick of it around here. Can't wait for someone who punches like a man to take him out.

I wonder who that someone could be?:hey

But it will never happen. By the time Pavlik is up to 175, Joe will be slappin the **** out of his grandchildren. That is, if he isn't gay...

Boxing is nothing like other sports, although many judges try and score fights the same as all other sports. Whoever lands the most (whether they be effective punches or not) and whoever appears to be the aggressor tends to be favored by the judges, Boxing is supposed to be judged on 3 main criteria:

    1. Clean punching/Effective aggression
    2. Ring Generalship
    3. Defense

Based on these criteria, Hopkins landed the most clean punches, he controlled the ring by his movement and his defense was superb (he took very few clean shots). Calzgahe was just aggressive by stalking and chasing Hopkins around the ring. He landed very few clean shots. He was not effectively aggressive and looked wild and amateurish at times. I am not a huge Hopkins fan but can appreciate how at 43 he can effectively frustrate and neutralize most opponents. Calzaghe for the first time that I have seen a fight of his looked like an ordinary Joe. I do not feel that Hopkins was robbed of a victory as the fight was difficult to score and Hopkins' excessive holding probably didn't win points with the judges, but if the scores would have been read giving Hopkins a close decision victory, I feel it would have been justifiable. Calzaghe won the fight in the judges eyes by stalking and chasing Hopkins most of the round and then throwing a flury of punches (mostly at the end of each round) with very few landing cleanly. I predicted a close decision victory for Calzaghe because I knew this is probably how the fight would play out and how judges typically score fights today. Unfortunately it looks like Calzaghe is going to take a big money fight with Jones Jr. who I also predict he will beat at this stage of both of their careers, and then retire. I wish he would fight Pavlik as he would finally meet his match.

    1. Clean punching/Effective aggression
    2. Ring Generalship
    3. Defense

There can be no argument made that Calzaghe won on any of these three criteria. His aggression was only "effective" at forcing the Hopkin's counter, which was landing fairly cleanly all night.

Unless, you have trouble reading, I state in my response that "I am not a huge Hopkins fan". I have never been a big fan of his because he has a fan-unfriendly style, but unlike yourself who obviously appreciates guys rushing forward throwing volleys of ineffective punches that rarely land, I appreciate effective-aggression. I am a huge Pavlik fan for this reason. You should hope that Calzaghe never faces Pavlik and can get away with beating a sub-prime Jones to end his career. By the way, were you one of those Calzaghe lovers who predicted he would destroy Hopkins? I bet you proclaimed Calzaghe to be an ATG after the Lacy win as well. I am sorry that you have no historical perspective whatsoever.
