Aye? One weeks notice even Frank would struggle to get a top level opponent in and lets be honest here Johnson showed up for his money and was tough as ever but already on the slide down and down some more so Lillis doesn't really have a point till the opponent on May 25th.
I just see both sides here. It's a bad fight but a good save under the circumstances. Lillis' point is fair, IMO. That would be ideal. Taylor's back at 160, I think. Magee is a good option and would give Groves some early problems. Manfredo... god no. The guy's a club fighter who got a little media.
There are exceptional circumstances here that people haven't mentioned (or are scared to because of you know who) Theoretically Groves deserves more blame than Eddie... After all, he was the one who turned his back on the original fight..... But then again, we all know why. Yes it is a **** fight, but I don't see what else could have been done.,. Apart from not fighting at all
I only make allot of critical posts on Frank because he gives me ammunition. I have been critical of Hearn not being able to get a good opponent for Barker.
There's a difference between joining a new Promotion at a weeks notice and getting a soft -ish touch to get him paid and tuned up for a fight in 2 months time that sounds significant. Compared to what Frank would offer up to his men at a weeks notice and of late there wouldn't even be a fight.. I was waiting for Lillis or Bunce to start that nonsense. Hearn's bought himself some breathing space with some smart PR work which Frank hasn't. Frank's alienated himself at times during career..
He does. He's not saying its a poor opponent for Groves under the circumstances, he saying that VVarren would get unjustified stick for making the same fight if Groves had just left Hearn.
I thought Kugan Cassius interview with Hearn was quite revealing. He asked Eddie if Groves was under contract when he signed him. Eddie was very reluctant to answer at first & Kugan had to keep repeating it. Seems to me Eddie was trying to buy time to think of what to say,. I've got a good idea what Kugan was alluding to... (or perhaps I'm reading to much into it?)
