When I say its an 'exclusive', it was in todays glesga paper but wasnt put onto their website, but I had bought said newspaper, & have typed it all out for everyones viewing pleasure here whos interested:good Willie Limond has decided to live his dream and tke a fight at Madison square Garden- The home of boxing against Dmitri salita. However, with the matchup representing a risky move up to light-welterweight from Limonds natural 135lbs lightweight habitat- & against the worlds no2 rated fighter, who is unbeaten in 29 fights and banged out 16 opponents- the fight is fraught with danger for the glaswegian. But after a heart-to-heart with his manager, braveheart promotions supremo Barry Hughes, Limond has opted to hit the big apple. And he said "Given how highly rated Salita is, his record & the fact I am going to have to move up 5lbs is a bit of a gamble, but then you only live once. "I just didnt want to be sitting at home years down the line & telling my boys I could have fought in the Garden and have to explain to them why I bottled out. "The other thing is that proir to this year I had felt my career stagnating and I moaned plenty about not getting any opportunities other than 8 round club fights- well what kind of fighter would I be if I didnt tke this opportunity?" Limond added: "I know how tough it is going to be, but I have belief in my own ability and there is every chance that Salita could underestimate me. If he does then he will have made the biggest mistake of his career" -------------------------------------------- Get intae him Wullie, heid first:bbb
Cheers Mac Hopefully Limonds gamble will pay off & he gets the W, & then the world is his oyster if he comes home with Salitas scalp... Delighted Willie has taken the fight on the same card as Calzaghe-Jones, its big a big time fight. & always remember, stay scottish bro.
Sorry Dunky, missed this last night (don't know htf how as I was on this DG for quite a while and even posted against another WL thread... Doh!!). Anyway, this pretty much says it all for me about WL and about what boxing is all about: self belief and having the balls to give it a go. I seriously wish the wee man all the very best and think he's more than capable of an upset. Also, is this not a bit of a coup for Braveheart - taking fights into the big time; never mind the Big Apple? MSG is but a lottery win away; but in my case so's Bethnal Green. No mind... the Jags are playing Carlisle today, so there's bound to be some boxing of the "casual" variety and entry is only a ten spot (for any manic depressives out there who like to meet like-minded individuals).
