http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=boxing/08/10/13/BOXING_Limond_Nightlead.html Shame - felt Willie had a chance here
Basically Salita's management wanted options on his next three fights if he won - for the same money that he was getting in this fight. Apparently this is a pittance - he was earning this kind of money four years ago but was willing to take it for the chance to fight at MSG on a big card, and (hopefully) beat a potential challenger and hypejob - like he beat Khan (IMO). After a tune-up the plan is to defend the inter-alphabetty a couple of times before getting an IBO shot (either at Diaz -unlikely or for a vacant strap) which would hopefully pay decent money. My eye would be on a Khan rematch or even Alex Arthur to be honest, but each to their own.
Shame. This was Limonds big crack stateside. No matter how good he is I can not see him getting a good opportunity here in Britain either at lightweight or light welter. The Arthur and Khan fights are good but will hardly lead anywhere and I doubt he would get much better deal off of Warren than he would the Jews.
Man that sucks. Looks like Salitas management was maybe of the feeling that many on here were too , that Salita was in trouble ! Like the idea of a AA rematch ( Alex has declinded and Willie has improved I think we'd see a reversal ) but I'd also love to see Willie in a big money fight against a yank or a mexican he f**kin deserves it. Ho hum thanks Beeston !
I was surprised that Limond lost to Alex Arthur to be honest. Average Alex is someone whom I have never really rated - having been destroyed by Michael Gomez and now schooled (correct word) by Nicky Cook. Limond beat Khan into next week in round six (?) - only a favour from the ref saved Amir that night. Perhaps the favour would have been to count him out, to save the embarrassing KO from Prescott.
Gutted for Willie, but if the deal aint right then the deal aint right. Hopefully he gets his big night soon.
