I don't get the hype, the kid is very good for sure, but people have been hyping him as one of the next big P4P stars and some compare him directly to JMM....

He's not overly quick, he's a little sloppy at times, his defence is leaky at times and he certainly doesn't look like the type that would deal with swarmers well or pressure fighters. Larios looked horrible in there.

What he has going for him is decent timing and accuracy, but not 'great' timing, that'd be Mr. Gamboa, whom some would tip Linares to defeat right now. Another poster tipped Linares to defeat Guzman right now also.

Not saying he can't improve and isn't going to be a good fighter, he already is, but he'll never be an elite fighter, doesn't have the physical tools to do so. People were overly impressed just because Larios has a recognisable name and a nice overall record, but he's clearly shot here and is a natural 122 pounder, where Vasquez beat him in 3 rounds on the undercard of Hopkins-Taylor 2.

Would like your opinion.... good fighter or future P4P star? He clearly doesn't seem to have the potential of that of Yuriorkis Gamboa, not even close. And he's not comparable to a young DLH also, the most common comparison, a young DLH was much more powerful, quicker, better schooled and showed very few vulnerabilities.

I thought Manny and the HBO crew wouldn't get off his jock and they were giving him far too much praise which instantly annoys me. As he broke Larios down though I began to appreciate his skill. He's B+ A- territory

Depending on Vasquez's condition after those brutal wars, I may pick him to defeat Linares, he's a great pressure fighter who takes too much, but Linares is not as fast, or as powerful(arguable) as Marquez.

Would be competitive at the very least and I feel the top from 130, even the guys who can make 126, would paste the smaller Vasquez.

That's a good assessment, the main flaw is a very leaky defence and he has yet to fight a real puncher to test that as being a serious problem. But you said 'good overall', he fails to be great at anything no?

Even timing and accuracy is just good, not a really snappy puncher either, more of a stiff puncher like Monzon, who threw loose bombs that were punishing, but not the KO hit.

I like Linares.. I believe he has a good future ahead of him and could make his case as a P4P contender.. Larios might be a lil' shot, but he's no push over.. I believe Larios could have gone furthur with Vazquez if it weren't for the doctor stopping the fight on cuts.. But yeah, a few more wins and I would like to see him in the ring against Solis or even Vazquez or Marquez..

He has the tools to unify the featherweight division.

Can you imagine what a great fight Linares vs Robert Guerrero would be?!

    Chris John don't want none.

Larios style was tailor made for Linares, of course Linares is going to look great, I dont see the ATG in the making junk some guys here on the forums are spewing about.

I still think my boy Luevano would school him.

I think Linares is an excellent young fighter. And you have to figure with his youth, he'll continue to learn and grow, tactically and technically. I expect him to become a multi-weight champion (126, 130). I like his combination punching and fluidity. The thing that concerns me most, however, is how he relies mainly on his movement to avoid punches. Very little head movement and a very upright amateurish stance. Definitely could be troubled by a high quality pressure fighter or swarmer as you mentioned because they could exploit this and take him out of his comfort zone by 1) roughing him up and 2) making him fight an inside fight.

Other than Gamboa (who is just on another planet), I see Linares beating everybody CURRENTLY at featherweight, including John, Luevano, and Juarez. Vazquez would be very interesting because he has the tools to beat Linares, but he also has shown vulnerabilities against rangy boxer punchers.

I'd just toss in that although Linares isn't nearly the explosive athlete Oscar was, he's already got a more complete arsenal of punches. That, plus his ability to counter, plus his general fluidity in the ring will give him the ability to adapt when necessary.

Just probably not to Gamboa, although he would catch him with a few sneaky shots, at least.

I think he's very good and his size at 126 is amazing. I see him still developing a bit and surely is amongst the names rising. He needs more exposure and good fights, we'll find out.:yep

Everyone has weakness in some way. Vazquez and Gamboa might win, but a whole lot of fw's WONT:nono

i like him, solid fighter. good hand speed, nice combination punching, decent counter puncher, solid fundamentals and pretty well tested. he's still got some things to work on, like the holes in his defense, but he's got good upside in the coming years. imo he's a much better fighter than the likes of luevano, who imo is nothing to write home about.

P4P king is too big of a stretch, but the poise and skills he demonstrated against Larios, though definitely past his prime, was pretty damn impressive IMO.
