A fight between 2 undefeated, good, young fighters. Dibb is just a Prospect. Linares already a Champ with worldclass experince.
Billy was thrown to the Lion. He's to inexperienced for Linares. Linares by KO.

Eduardo EScobedo, the guy who almost beat Ponce deleon will fight Farenas, a guy with the best straight left since Pacquiao. I've seen him only once but he impressed me. This will be added to Pac-JMM untelevised undercard. this will be a good fight, almost even match. Good thing I'll be there to see it.:happy

Michael Farenas Fights Escobedo on 3/15 Recommend this page Printable version Search *********** Database

    By Ronnie Nathanielsz

Michael Farenas, the Philippines No. 1 ranked featherweight fights Mexican Eduardo Escobedo on the undercard of the rematch between Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and WBC super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on March 15.

WBO champion Gerry Penalosa who is in Los Angeles training for his mandatory title defense against former champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin informed wife Goody that his protégé Farenas had been given the big break.

Escobedo is the current WBO North American Boxing Association champion having won the title with a sixth round TKO over Jose Francisco Mendoza last September 28. Mendoza had an impressive record of 21-1-1 with 17 knockouts.

The 24 year old Escobedo who fights out of Texas has a record of 20-3 with 14 knockouts and battled WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon for twelve rounds before losing a unanimous decision last December 8.

Farenas (19-2-2, 17 KO’s) will be the third Filipino to see action on the fight card titled “Unfinished Business.” Former IBF flyweight Diosdado Gabi (30-3-1, 21 KO’s) who lost by an eighth round stoppage to Australia’s Vic Darchinyan has moved up to bantamweight and will take on the fancied, undefeated Mexican Abner Mares (15-0, 9 KO’s) while Ernel Fontanilla (6-3-1, 5 KO’s) who is handled by Pacquiao’s Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez will also see action in the Vegas blockbuster.

Dib to fight Linares May 3

Featherweight sensation Billy Dib will fight Venezuela's WBC world champion Jorge Linares in California on May 3.

They will fight for the same title once owned by Australia's greatest fighter, Jeff Fenech, tha man Australian fight fans recently said would stop Filipino great Manny Pacquiao in a Dream Fight.

Dib-Linares will be the main support fight to the legendary Oscar De La Hoya's battle against former world champ Steve Forbes at the 40,000-seat Home Depot Centre stadium in Carson, California.

``Oscar sees Billy as a future superstar and wants to showcase him before a live crowd of more than 20,000 and a TV audience into the many millions,'' said Dib's brother and manager Emaid Dib.

``Linares is probably the best featherweight in the world at the moment and it's a huge step for Billy but one we're confident he can take.

``Billy believes his work rate and awkward style will make things very tough for Linares who gets tired late in fights.''

Dib has been preparing for the fight by sparring flyweight Hussein Hussein, who faces IBF flyweight king Nonito Donaire – the conqueror of Vic Darchinyan _ in Dubai next month.

Linares, 22, has a record of 25-0 (16 KOs) and has held the WBC title since July last year when he stopped Mexican Oscar Larios, who holds a points win over heavy-hitting Australian Nedal ``Skinny'' Hussein.

Dib, also 22, grew up in the Sydney suburb of Engadine and has a flashy loose limbed style modelled on that of the eccentric Englishman Prince Naseem Hamed. He is the No.7 contender for the world featherweight crown and is undefeated in 17 fights, with nine wins by KO.

To warm up for Linares, Dib will face Mexican Edgar Vargas on March 22 after the cancellation of a fight with former world champ Orlando Salido.

Dib and Salido were due to fight in Cabazon, California in an official eliminator for the IBF world featherweight title but Salido has withdrawn from the bout and Vargas comes in as a late substitute.

``Salido just didn't want the fight,'' said Emaid Dib.

``He first wanted a 75-25 split then he wanted the fight in Mexico.

``It was obvious he didn't want to fight Billy.''

    Vargas, 24, has a record of 11-3.

Escobedo didn't almost beat Ponce de Leon. He was lucky if he won 3 rounds of that fight. He just shelled up a lot and managed to not get KOed by illegally keeping his head below Ponce's beltline.

Linares vs. Dib should be very exciting while it lasts. They're both exciting fighters, and I do expect Dib to take home a version of the belt at some point, but he's still way too raw right now.

Escobedo fought like a girl against De Leon, I haven't seen enough of Farenas, but based on what I saw ...Farenas has good power and if he let Escobedo feel his power. Escobedo may end up trying to avoid being KO'D by being too defensive minded like he was in De Leon which could cause him to lose a UD.

Escobedo has the stance like JMM, but doesn't have damn near the technique skills of the top fighters.

I don't really know who would win, because I haven't seen enough of any of these fighters, but if i had to pick Farenas by UD.

That;s true escobedo has the Nacho Berinstein style, like JMM & Lopez. But he needs to stop the defensive style, if wants money fight in the future. Farinas looks very good in his lone video. I'm wishing for another KO. Farinas is more of a textbook skills than PDL, His punch are straighter & has good left hook. I want a Ko in rd 5 for Farenas.

Linares will take him out. Dib likes to use his height and reach but Linares is even taller

I agree. This would be a better fight for Billy in a year or two.
