Today is as fractured a division as we've ever, ever had.

The claimants don't wanna fight each other, the once trusted neutral ring magazine has lost all credibility, independent ranking organisations don't adhere to the same criteria and other problems I could go on listing.

How relevant now is the lineal title? It has no real world prestige as far as I'm concerned. People talk about Frampton v Quigg, I say "yeah but Rigo is the real champ" they say "who cares, Frampton has two belts, he has none"

It seems now it is no more than a device to trace back to a time when there was one champion, but then I ask why do we bother to trace, will lineage be relevant again one day or will it just be a distant memory of a simpler time?

    What are people's thoughts?

it still means enough for fans to want ggg v canelo so ggg gets the title.

lineal titles are imperfect so i could argue it's good to have other belts to get boxers recognised or paid while in the past one guy could monopolise the only title going.

    ABC beltholders are contenders.
The lineal champion remains the lineal champion.
Canelo is not fighting GGG, the number 1 contender who is seen as THE champ at MW although Canelo is the lineal champ.

They need to strip the likes of Frampton and Canelo from the lineal title if they avoid Golovkin and Rigondeaux.

Is that due to linearity or the prestige of seeing the men fight?

People wanted Frampton v Quigg but neither were lineal.

Quigg, Frampton and Rigo don't fight in a historical prestigious division.
The lineage of the super-bantam championship has never been of much concern, has it ?

Surely that would be a paradox?

No, linear means you do not get a choice because you do not like it.

It is by definition not democratic or logical per se...

probably a bit of both, frampton quigg was domestic and had been built up over a long period but is a good example of the biggest fight(maybe not in the US?) in the division not involving the champion. Canelo v golovkin i think is important because of the lineal title, people wanted martinez and cotto too and canelo was not mentioned by anyone for golovkin before the cotto fight.

Always want to see the best champ fight the obvious best challenger. Major reason that people default to the "so-in-so not fighting the best bl@ck fighters" in the early 1900's, or mid-40's, to run down the "official' champion of the era.

I wish the media had a black out on none lineal belt holders. Would sort the mess right out.
