Off the back of Boilermaker's thought provoking Whites v Coloured fighters during Dempsey's reign.
It occurred to me that Jack Johnson was undefeated as the Coloured Heavyweight Champion until Brad Simmons beat him on the 6th of September 1926. Since he won from Denver Ed Martin on the 5th of February 1903, that is a 23 years reign.
Before anyone jumps in and says Johnson was stripped of his crown and Langford took it . Let me remind them that when Peter Jackson made his ill advised match with Jim Jeffries he was still the Coloured Champion, though he had never defended it in the ten years since he had won it from George Godfrey.
    By contrast
Johnson defended against black fighters 23 times. Jeannette was given a disputed dsq over Johnson who was winning handily , but Johnson was still recognized as the Champion. If you think Johnson lost his crown to Jeannette by that dsq, remember he re-won it a month later,
and would then be the Coloured Champion for a mere 12 years still the record. Thoughts?

23 years is a long time to just be coloured, let alone champion too. :scaredas:
