No. If a Champion is injured then he can become Champion in recess like Chagaev was. The interm belt that Valuev had is nothing more than a promissary note that signifies that as soon as the Champion Chagaev gets healthly that Valuev is the #1 contender and gets the first shot at his title.

IF Haye and Wlad meet each other in the ring (and that's still a big IF for me... I'll believe it when I see it), then I wouldn't be surprised if the WBA would just strip Haye of the belt and have Kali Meehan and Mormeck fight for the vacant belt...

There's too much money in the Haye/Klit fight for them not to be involved in it...

Evidence of john Ruiz being around the #50 ATG heavyweight.

True and Ruiz still won the fight on the scorecards by a wide margin, showing how idiotic the judging of the fight was.

I´ve been talking about how devalued the WBA belt has become throughout the years for a while now, so I very much agree with this thread. The devaluing started already when Lennox Lewis was stripped of the title cause of some Don King plays. Then we´ve had a recycling of Ruiz, Holyfield and Valuev fighting for the title. We´ve had numerous robberies, bad draws, DQs and completely unworthy title challengers like Owen Beck and Audley Harrison.

We´ve had only 3 decent caliber fighters as champions. The first, Jones, vacated the belt. The second, Chagaev, got sick. The third, Haye, had to defend against ultra recycled Ruiz and then chose to fight Audley Harrison!

I just wanted to bump this thread. Finally we had a real fight with a clear enough outcome: Haye lost his WBA belt in a unification fight to Wlad Klitschko. No controversy here.

Anyways, the WBA then declares Wlad to be the 'super champ', while the 'regular belt' (which Haye held and which he lost to Wlad) is vacant and will be on the line in the Povetkin-Chagaev fight next Saturday. To me, this only means that the WBA don't recognise Wlad as their champ and stripped him of the 'regular title'. That 'superchamp' bulls*it is just a pathetic excuse. The WBA policy regarding their champs and belts remains a complete joke.

Yep like I said earlier I´ve been saying for a long time how the WBA HW belt has been a joke ever since Lennox Lewis was stripped of it.

There is even more to add to the first post of this thread.

    1. Many felt Ruiz faked the supposed low blow Holyfield floored him with in their second fight.

    2. The Ruiz-Rahman fight was complete crap. Rahman was out of shape and just awful while Ruiz was at his usual one clinch per punch BS.

    3. Kali Meehan actually made it to mandatory contender in the WBA by beating Davarryl Williamson. That´s unimpressive enought but then they wouldn´t give him a title shot for something like 1-2 years, but in the end gave him a final elimination bout, which he lost.

I feel that even if you overlook bad judging, one of the worst things about the WBA title has been the recycling of the same fighters who get to fight for it over and over again. It seems like for many years, the WBA title was the championship of a 4 fighter league of boxers, consisting of Holyfield, Ruiz, Valuev and Chagaev. Holy vs Ruiz 3 times. Ruiz vs Valuev 2 times. Holyfield vs Vaulev 1 time. Chagaev vs Valuev 1 time. Chagaev vs Ruiz 1 time in an eliminator. Then Ruiz also got a shot at Haye. And now Chagaev gets to fight Povetkin for the "regular" WBA belt.

I dont see what the big deal is? Ruiz and Valuev were very good champions. But Ruiz was very boring i'll give you that. The WBA has just always been a great title organization.

'Great' news: apparently John Ruiz is making a comeback!

Take my word for it: John Ruiz against the winner of Povetkin-Chagaev within 1 year! Wooohooo...

It's as though, since Lewis was stripped, the wba have deliberately tried to completely destroy their own credibility. This is the organisation which was originally the nba founded in 1921! Appalling.
