For anyone who is interested in the notion of lineal champions, I have come across a website that supports this policy. It's www.linealchamps.com I personally prefer the idea of one lineal champion in each division. There are so many alphabet titles around now it's unbelieveable! And with all the interim titles, super champions, diamond belt championships and goodness knows what else it's impossible to keep track of them. It's just crazy! Is any other sport this messy? Almost every month I read about someone who's been stripped of their belt. It happens so often the reasons don't even matter anymore and nothing surprises me. No other boxing fan I know has any respect for any of the alphabet titles. I know that TV commentators try to make out that a pointless mismatch is actually really significant because there's an alphabet belt on the line, but they're only brainwashing us. This happens all the time. And when they talk about a boxer going for a world title, say for example Nathan Cleverly, what they really mean is that he is going for an alphabet belt. There's a major difference. The WBC shouldn't even exist! They only survive because Graciano Rocchigiani cut a deal with them when he could have bankrupted them. And the IBF shouldn't exist either! They should have been disbanded after their former president, Bob Lee, was convicted of corruption. That court case pretty much revealed how these sanctioning bodies operate. Yet still they go on! Sometimes it's not easy being a boxing fan. It's our sport so why can't we have a proper world champion in the true sense? Okay, gripe over. Anyway, the website above is worth a look if you're into that way of thinking.
George Dixon how come he is never mentioned as one of the greatest Canadian boxers ever seems like a hell of a fighter
