If this was ever true (and it might have been) he's on the downside now. Ring Magazine stripped him yesterday.

I suppose at the very least it can be regarded as the final test; if drug abuse, medical disqualification and voluntary relinquishment of the title through retirement aren't enough, nothing is.

Nobody agrees with you. You can repeat yourself a million times over but nobody saw Wlad versus Headvetkin as a 1,2 matchup for the lineal hvw championship of the WORLD-except YOU!

    It's even simpler than that.

Beat the man & you're the man.

Which is why Tyson Fury is the man.

Wladimir vs. Povetkin was absolutely #1 vs. #2.

Vitali had retired. Vitali's last ever fight was on September 8, 2012. Wladimir vs. Povetkin was on October 5, 2013.

Who exactly did you rank #1 and #2 at that time, then? It would be much easier for you to state that as opposed to simply stating that you believe the other poster is wrong. No matter how many capital letters you use.

At what point in your opinion does the man seize to be the man if he doesn't ever box?

Serious question. Everybody has their own opinion. The only thing you can do is try to stay wholly consistent.

    I'm pretty curious now.

Honestly, when it was happening back in 09 I wasn't very aware of lineal. Then when Wlad fought Pov lineal had come up on another forum and that's honestly where I picked up the 09 bit from and never even thought to challenge it because of the Ring belt. I just figured once he had Ring people were happy to call him lineal and Chageav was #2 like how Mormeck was a number 1 contender. We just go along with the farce because it's the K2 years not really because anyone believes those guys earned that status.

If I misunderstood how the hardcores of the day perceived it all I would hear it if you'd share it.

Joshua is the new linage. Although Fury never lost, the linage that he was a part of ended with him when he was stripped of the title. Linages do start and end.

It's all good bro. I enjoy our back-n-forth. But you need to come over to the dark side on this issue. :smoking:

In reality then, the lineal champion is largely subjective? There's no written rules so its impossible to always say who is the lineal champ.

Using the current Fury situation....Is he the lineal champion?

If he never steps back in the ring, then surely Joshua became Lineal the moment he beat Klitschko?

But of course should he step back into the ring, he was the first to beat Klitschko so he's the lineal champ right?

So we will never actually know until he either fights, or retires.

It's no surprise lineal isn't a thing anymore as there are scenarios where you can't actually say who the lineal guy currently is.....Just when the Lineal champ was reigning.

    No wonder they introduced titles.....

Can it really be argued against?

Fury became lineal champ after beating Wlad.

But since Fury is inactive, and joshua beat the most recently active lineal champ, then surely joshua is the only active heavyweight you can consider the lineal champ?
