Marvin Hart beat former Light Heavyweight champ Jack Root for the vacant title in 1905.

Max Schmeling beat Jack Sharkey for the vacant title in 1930.

Ezzard Charles beat Jersey Joe Walcott in 1946 for Joe Louis' vacant title.

Floyd Patterson, who was a new contender, beat Archie Moore, who was old, for the vacant title.

Frazier beat Jimmy Ellis in 1970 for the vacant title. Although later he beat Ali, who had been the last champ.

Wlad vs. Iggy for recognition as Champ? After all:

-Wlad has already beaten former #1's like Brewster and Byrd, and has already beaten another recent top contender in Peter.
-Maskaev is old as **** and inactive. Chagaev will be fighting Skelton in a JOKE fight.
    -This is also unification.

I know Johnson beat Jeffries after Jeffries came back from retirement. Have no idea though who Jeffries won the title from without looking it up.

The early era is like this:

Corbett (beat Sullivan for the first title under Queensberry rules, so I count him as first champ)
    Fitzsimmons
    Jeffries (retires)
    Marvin Hart
    Tommy Burns
    Jack Johnson
    Jess Willard
    Jack Dempsey

I agree, Wlad is already the #1 recognized champion, so after this unification there would be no question whos the real champ.

I know Sullivan to Spinks off by heart, its one of my (admittedly sad) party pieces....it all gets a bit messy after Spinks though...

Here's the order you're missing before Dempsey:

    1. John L. Sullivan
    2. Jim Corbett
    3. Bob Fitzsimmons
    4. Jim Jeffries
    5. Marvin Hart
    6. Tommy Burns
    7. Jack Johnson
    8. Jess Willard

Did Foreman retire shortly after beating Axel Schulz and then make a comeback in 1996? I'm sure he did, because if he did then the lineage from that point shouldnt be:

Foreman, Briggs, Lewis , Rahman , Lewis, V.Klitschko

    it should be :

Foreman , Holyfield (after Foreman relinquished his alphabet titles , Foreman beat the highest contenders around at that time) , Lewis , Rahman , Lewis and so on.

    Someone give an insight please
