Hmm, East Side Boxing should put up a page with the lineal progression of titles for each division. It could be a project for the East Side Boxing Committee to put it together and submit.

That is my little party piece; name the year, I name you THE World Champions for that year (up to 1996); sad I know.:yep

Anyway for the earlier years you could stick Peter Jackson at the top of the list; he claimed the World Championship in the late 1880's and won recognition from Richard K Fox's Police Gazette as World Champion before Corbett beat Sullivan, plus he holds a 61 round draw with Corbett. Jackson lost his claim with a defeat to Jeffries, who strengthed his own claim with the Fitzsimmons win.

The 90s is a confusing era with all the ABC belts.

    I have it like this:

    Mike Tyson (1988-1990)
    Buster Douglas (1990)
    Evander Holyfield (1990-1992)
    Riddick Bowe (1992-1993)
    Evander Holyfield (1993-1994)
    Michael Moorer (1994)
    George Foreman (1994-1998 )
    Shannon Briggs (1998 )
    Lennox Lewis (1998-2001)
    Hasim Rahman (2001)
    Lennox Lewis (2001-2003)

I know that , but I was just asking if he retired for a short period after the Schulz fight , because if he did then I believe that vacated the lineal championship . So when he fought Briggs (after coming out of that short retirement) he wasnt champion.
If he didnt retire though and merely vacated the alphabet title he had , then he was champion when he fought Briggs.
What I was asking is did he retire officially for a short while after the Schulz robbery.
