Wednesday, June 2nd is drawing closer.

The unveiling ceremony will commence at 10.30am with plenty of family, friends and fans in attendance. Warragul is just on 1 hour from Melbourne City centre.

Lionel Rose deserves every respect from well wishers who can to attend. His true pioneering efforts in the fight game saw him face off with, amd beat some of the Bantamweight legends of the game. Never taking a backward step or ducking the hard oponents in a career that remains one of the stand outs in Oz boxing history.

As an Aboriginal, Lionel Rose saw barriers dropped around him as he became the first inigenous Australian to be nominated and recieve Australian of the Year honours. Recieving an M.B.E as well as becomming our greatest ever Bantamweight boxer in a period that remains the pinnacle of the bantam division through history.

Be a part of Lionels biggest day, and help the LEGEND celebrate a unique sporting legacy. He gave the game his blood, sweat and tears.... Lets give a little back.

Just on another note how come Lionel hasnt been inducted into the IBHOF yet ?
Surely he is worthy to be a member.

He's been inducted into the WBC HOF a few years back... or one of the HOF franchised O/S based.

As for the IBHOF... it's a tough one to get into with the depth of international names. Lionel deserves his place, as do countless others. I'd lay any money on it that he'll be an inductee in the next 5 years.

Though late, great to see an acknowledgment of Rose. I'm sure had life not overtaken him, he could have been a national treasure. His feats and what he did for the Aboriginal cause in an era when there weren't any identities is testimony to his lasting impact. More indigenous athletes could take a leaf out of this bloke's book. Just a shame, he was never able to cement his ability and potential at a time it was needed.

Mate, I understand your angle... but Lionel has lived the life of 20 men so far (each of those 20 men having a bloody good life)...

His way of life has been as he'd liked... He's just Lionel.

His ability and potential was reached. In fact it was over cooked in the saunas to keep the Title in Australias possession. Hearing of the dramas he went through in making weight time after time is incredible. After the Rudkin fight, Lionel was in a very bad way in the dressing room for quite a while... Lungs burning, body aching, physically and mentally distressed..... He went through Hell to do US proud as a nation- Alan Rudkin was there to help his condition, making cups of tea for him.
Cutting hair, spitting into buckets, wearing heavy woolen jumpers in Californian summer, trimming finger nails, starving and sweating in saunas to make weight for 15 round wars against the WORLDS best, in order to serve Australia proud....

    HE IS A NATIONAL TREASURE.

Without a doubt and that's why I made the National Treasure comment. More of mainstream Australia would be inspired by Rose's feats and what he did. That was the context. It's been too long a time for his recognition.
