A lot of the old white writers of the day hated Ali. Lots of them still called him Clay at the time.

I think one of the glaring inexcusables for me is Jack O Brien at number one LHVY .He made a total of nil defences and was ko'd by the middleweight champion. No room for Ike Williams at lightweight! Pascual Perez at bantam. Jim Corbett's resume emphatically dsq's him from a top ten ranking.Emille Griffith doesn't justifiy a top ten at160lbs imo.

Surprised at not seeing Ezzard Charles, Jimmy Bivins, or Harold Johnson at light heavy. Would’ve thought that Monzón had accomplished enough by the end of 1974 to make the list at 160.

By any measure, these lists are truly terrible. So many glaring ommissions and then unreasonably high ratings for old time fighters.

This was Nat Loubet's list. Nat Fleisher panned Ali after his first loss to Frazier as not a top 10 ATG. See his famous article. But his brother in law did move Ali up. Its sort of rare for ANY modern fighter to be ranked high in the top ten.

My guess is these rankings came out before Ali beat Foreman.

Loubet was Fleischer's son in law.
