I've only really been a boxing fan for a little over a year now and I'm still quite young and don't know a great deal. I kind of use this forum to help educate me on the sport (the logical, impartial guys anyway - not the guys with an agenda for one fighter and hate others)

So, if you can be bothered to list in your eyes truly great fights from any and all eras that really highlight why you love boxing I would appreciate it greatly. I'm snowed in where I live this weekend and I'm off work so why not spend it watching some boxing :D

A mix of classics, a history lesson, and some wars.

Louis vs. Schmelling II. The most socially significant sporting event in American history.
Ali vs. Frazier 1. Arguably the pinnacle of heavyweight boxing matchups.
Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Jake Lamotta 1. The greatest of all time in a brutal, classic war.
Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns 1. Two ATG. Great fight.
Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns. Simply amazing.
Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor. Great fight. Debates about it continue today.
Arturo Gatti vs. Micky Ward 1. Transcends the sport.
Diego Corrales vs. Jose Louis Castillo. I have this permanently saved on my DVR. Epic.
Mike Tyson vs. James "Buster" Douglas. Earth shattering at the time.

There are so many more. Vasquez vs. Marquez 1-3, Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Erik Morales 1-3. I could go on. These will give you a solid historical foundation on which to build. You will likely find a favorite fighter or two.

Edit: I love your attitude and desire to learn. Those are the makings of a good fan.

    Here's the three I'd start with: Barrera-Morales I, Pryor-Arguello I, Vasquez-Marquez II.

Maybe throw Hagler-Hearns in there too because it's quite short and violent.

Israel Vasquez vs Rafael Marquez III is my favorite fight ever, but I'd watch at least the 2nd one before moving on to that.

  14. I gotta point out that if you want 10 great fights.. you should start with my list. A bunch of these other lists have some great fights and some fights where one guy gets KO'd in 1/2 rounds or 1 guy gets his ass beat historically... but not necessarily GREAT fights. Just sayin. :conf
