Martinez struggled against Paul Williams. Does that mean he sucks against lefties? Williams is a tall , lanky, volume puncher that can take a punch, and fight on the inside. A guy like that is going to be a tough fight for Margo whether he's left or right handed. Is there a particular punch from lefties that you don't think Margo can avoid? Margo has beaten up two quality lefties. You cannot ignore that. Two of his 3 losses to lefties were close fights. You can't ignore that either.

Not if he has more losses against orthodox fighters. That doesn't mean he struggles with southpaws. That means he struggles against anyone. Cotto lost twice, once to a orthodox and once to a soutpaw. And when you bring Corley into it, he also struggled with Clottey who is orthodox so that argument is flawed.

Do you know all the southpaws Martinez fought in his entire career? Just struggling with ONE that we know of, Williams, isn't enough to prove he sucks against lefties.

Let's be clear for a bit. When did marg avoid any punches?

marg lost to a GREEN Rodney Jones who already had two losses on his record when he beat marg, Rodney also beat him by wide score margins. Rodney ended up not ever reaching it to the elite level in his career. Rodney is a southpaw too.
If he struggles against anyone, anyone also includes southpaws. This means he does struggle against them.

Zab caught Cotto silly with the southpaw left uppercut. manny floors Cotto with a similar punch, the hybrid left hookercut. Corley made Cotto do the chicken dance with a left hand, and Cotto couldn't figure out how to protect himself from manny's left the whole night.

The right hand is the best punch to use on a southpaw. Cotto doesn't have an elite one.

Then why not fight Byrd and keep his title? Why fight Botha? Were we all to believe that Botha, who was just knocked out cold by Tyson was going to beat Lewis? You do realize that Byrd was coming off of a win against David Tua, right? I don't know about you... but I was VERY intested in seeing how Lennox Lewis would handle a fighter like Chris Byrd. Someone who would have exploited Lennox's horrible balance, and a southpaw which Lewis never faced. Much more exciting fight for me then watching him fight Frans Botha (who somehow deserved a title shot), or Kirk Johnson as Lewis had scheduled in his next fight after avoiding Byrd.

This is how bull**** Lewis' fight with Johnson was....

World Boxing Council Refuses to Sanction Lennox Lewis - Kirk Johnson Bout As Title Defense

LOS ANGELES, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The World Boxing Council has confirmed that it will not sanction as a championship bout the June 21 fight between Lennox Lewis and Kirk Johnson. The WBC statement came a day before the scheduled press conference at The Staples Center to announce the Lewis-Johnson fight. Ron DiNicola, the attorney representing Vitali Klitschko, the No. 1 contender for the WBC heavyweight title, said the decision means that the WBC is honoring a key point of an agreement it reached to settle litigation filed by Klitschko. The top-rated contender since June 2002, Klitschko filed a lawsuit against the WBC in federal court in Nevada in March, seeking to compel it to arrange a title bout between him and Lewis. Following the filing of the lawsuit, the WBC announced that Klitschko was the official challenger, and in a ruling made public on April 2, 2003, said that Lewis must face him. The WBC also stated that the fighters must begin free negotiations by July 1, 2003, and that if the parties are unable to reach an agreement, the WBC will order a purse offer 15 days later. "Vitali Klitschko will continue to press for the earliest possible date for a championship bout with Lewis," DiNicola said. A native of Ukraine, Klitschko is also the No. 1 contender in the World Boxing Association, and has a 32-1 record with 31 knockouts. World Boxing Council rules require all champions recognized by the WBC, including Lewis, to make at least one yearly mandatory defense against the designated official challenger, in this case Klitschko.

    .......................
Lewis didn't want to fight Vitali either. Vitali had to sue him into a fight, and Lewis still tried to avoid it. It wasn't until Kirk Johnson got injured and the Staples Center and HBO refused to allow Lewis to fight anyone other than Klitschko for the event to go on, did Lewis agree to fight him.
