But without the Tyson and Holyfield wins Lewis's would be pretty average to the modern day boxing fan aswell.
Yeah. I agree. Let's pretend Lewis never beat Holyfield, so those wins count for nothing. Hell, if Ali didn't beat Frazier, Foreman, Liston, Norton, Shavers, Williams, Folley, Lyle, Bonavena, Ellis, Terrell, Chuvalo, Quarry, Young etc, his resumé would probably be pretty average too. Lewis' resumé without Tyson and Holyfield is still better. Tua, unbeaten Grant, Rahman, Briggs, Golota, McCall, Mercer, Morrison, Bruno, Ruddock. Very solid list of names. Better than Vaughn Bean, Herbie Hide, Larry Donald and Danny Williams.
He has some nice wins for his era. He has some very nice wins. Just nobody who will do much for his place in history. Thats why I like to let somebody retire a few years before I rate them overal. What if he beats Haye and Valuev. He has a pretty good resume just not an all time one. But people rate him on ability and capability and style not by his record. He is a guy who is a great fighter one of the top 2 or 3 of the decade easily but not sure all time.
lol and with that being said the fighters on Ali resume has better resume then Vit. how soon we forget by the way I forgot how good lennox resume was
Problem is, you may check the record on Boxrec for sure, but you don't know if a fighter was really good or just hyped by the "experts". Only the hardcore fans still know the names of more than three opponents of Joe Louis, Marciano or Frazier. Only a hand full of fights remain in the general memory, even of legends as Ali or Foreman. Most just remember the names of the ATGs. So, the meaning of a resume fades after a few years. The promoters know this and are eager to protect the Zero Loss on the resumes of their fighters, since most people don't know the quality of former opponents.
No you get me wrong. Im not saying Vitalis is as good as Lewis's even without the Tyson and Holyfield wins, because it isnt. What i am saying is Wlads resume is comparable. Lewis lets not forget was derided for his opposition at times and the heavyweight division in general. The fighters you named:- Tua:- one of the most overated heavies of recent times. Dont get me wrong im a fan but when Tua has stepped up he has lost, Lewis and Byrd spring to mind. Grant:- Please, he was all hype from the start. And all the rest of the names on the list are good wins but they are hardly HOF bound are they.
even Zelejko Mavrovic > Bean, Hide, Donald and Williams. I dont understand the hate Lewis gets cause of his resume, the guy beat everyone in front of him. Mavrovic, Golota, Mercer, McCall, Briggs, Tua, Rahman etc... they were all beasts during thier respective times....and Lewis beat them all, sometimes without breaking a sweat.
ok then truthfully, him and his brother has conquerd the divison for all most a decade, its not there problem that the majority of heavyweights in this era arent aswell profiled as the ones from the 70's to early 90's, i actully think his resume is really impressive, considering the heavy's out there, he's fought the best that was there for him
