Best way to evaluate a resume is like some one posted wait 5-10 years. look at the enire resume.look at the opponets, thier records going into the fight how they performed, how they won or lost, and what the opponet achieved after their meeting(s). that way we could proprerly gauge if the majority of the opponets were good contenders, Journeymen,Tomato cans, over hyped undefeated contenders, good ticket sellers,Belt holders, Linear champions, and ATG's. it's about what your opponets achieve after you've beaten them or loss to them (in some cases). like in the instance of good ticket sellers some time a famous name although not in their prime, or not really all that great can inhance a resume to a great deal. all this has to be taken into account.
thats how i rate vitali over wlad, as he has lewis name, wlad aint had that defining fight that really makes him special
Vitali could of fought these guys at any time. They were all contenders at one point or another and some of the bigger names around. He didn't. Brewster was never a name while Lewis was around, his big break was '04 when he beat Wladimir and Lewis was retired by then. Maskev was a poor example, he never really became a name till '06 when both Lewis and Vitali were retired and injured respectively. Scrap that. Toney again was maybe a poor example given he's a former 160lber. Ruiz is a guy I'd of liked Lewis to add to his resumé, but to be fair by the time Ruiz had made a name for himself in '01, Lewis was set on avenging Rahman and fighting Tyson, by then he'd been beaten by Jones. But that's the thing, out of all that, and you pick out 4 names. He beat Tyson - albeit past-prime - he beat Tua, he beat Holyfield, he beat McCall, he beat Golota, he beat Briggs, he beat Rahman and he beat Grant. All but McCall and Briggs were beaten the time Vitali won his title v Herbie Hide and the Lewis fight. And who did Vitali beat between then? That's right - Obed Sullivan, Orlin Norris, Ross Purritty, Vaughn Bean, Larry Donald, Timo Hoffman and Ed Mahone. Outstanding, just outstanding.
Mavrovic was a beast? based on what?? he never fought a top 10 guy, EVER Bean was no beast, he couldnt bust a grape in a food fight and was soft as hell Hide- a very good cruiserweight Larry DOnald- if larry donald was a beast...what would you call a holyfield, a tyson or a ray mercer? :rofl
But Lewis was past-prime and Vitali lost. How does that enhance his resumé. You are practically admitting that Vitali will be remembered for losing to Lennox Lewis, and you would be correct.
Exactly. CRUISERWEIGHT. You know Herbie Hide used to weigh in with weights in his shoes to make him seem bigger and stronger than he actually was? He was never a heavyweight, not in a million years. I wouldn't regard him as very good either. He was solid, that's about it. Quick and powerful, coupled with being glass-jawed, nervy and small at the weight.
