at the time, everyone knew that morales was partying hard and doing blow and banging lots of women. one of the women bore his child and ended up being a ***** at adalitas...a famous strip club in tj.

dlh proposed the weight and paq accepted.

cotto admitted the weight was not a factor. he also previously came in at 146 his prior fight with clottey.

If the 2 pounds were no issue why did Camp Pac demand it? Cmon just logic, and of course a fighter is gonna say they are ok,and he did admit after the fact he will not drain himself again..

As for Oscar, well lets be honest that was for a paycheck, and even if we thought he would beat Pac,Freddie Roach knew more than what we did..

dlh needed a paycheck? cmon, man.

cant blame freddie for wanting it and you cant blame cotto for accepting it. miguel wanted the money and did what he had to do to get it.

obtaining an unfair advantage is part of boxing(josesito/canelo is about as bad as it gets)and monetary compensation is always part of the package...unlike josesito who reportedly received only 200k for his fight.

He didn't need it - he WANTED it. Is that so difficult to believe? Even rich people would like to make 10 million dollars in one night.

how about a list of former flyweight champions that have even moved up to bantam weight or even welterweight for that matter and beat the **** out of them and for fans to have the excuse of my guy was "weight drained" and thats why the former flyweight beat the hell out of the former middleweight champion oscar de la hoya....
thats so weak and also embarrassing to have as an excuse to getting beat up by a guy that won a belt at 112 pounds:rofl

Morales II- Based on need/willingness to move up for the Zahir loss before this fight, it seems probable to some degree.

Morales III- should not have been fighting at 130, straight up. I'd say drained if I have to say yes or no.

Oscar- 7 and a half years without a WW fight. Totally beyond drained. PLUS Oscar F'd himself over by additionally draining himself.

Hatton- I've heard this. It's possible? But with the Paulie win at 140 sandwhiched between the Floyd and Pac losses I don't buy it. I think he was a little, but no more than most unmotivated aging fighters with a recent loss trying to make weight.

Cotto- "weight drained by a whopping 2 pounds." It is of some significance, but minor rather than major. That combined with the above exact last sentence about Hatton.

***Everybody's resume is filled with cases of opponents being either "blown up" or "weight drained" and it is moreso with struggles in camp that fans and even writers will never know about. Pacquiao is just the ridiculously high profile, he himself has fought at a crazy variety of weights and has fought 60 times, and he has had many catch weights which open the door for immediate criticism.***

He was going down to 147 regardless, he looked to Hatton first and had a tuneup at 150

I'm pretty sure it was Mosley that proposed 142, not that he wouldn't have been drained. Just like Sergio said he'd drop down to 150, and Dawson went to 168 against better judgement

How did this drained Cotto manage to run like the wind from the midget for 6 rounds straight, after he gave up on winning by round 5?

anyone that agreed to coming in low did it for one reason, they wanted to be the first to knock the **** out of the new boxing sensation and cash cow in this 2nd career he had resurrected .... cotto, a welterweight champion didnt think in his wildest dreams a guy that was a flyweight champ at one time and not that far removed a bantam weight champ would kick his ass. and to make excuses about weight drained? bunch of *** excuse makers on here... give the man some credit ffs

    Miguel Cotto (145 lbs)
    Manny Pacquiao (144 lbs)

    December 24, 2009

    Percy Crawford:

''Was coming down to 145 tougher than you thought it would be since you hadn't weighed 145 or less since 2006?''

    Miguel Cotto:

''I felt really good at that weight. It wasn't a problem for me''.

"I take nothing away from Manny. We both made a great fight...He is fast and stronger than we thought he would be...He is fast and stronger than we thought he would be,"

Miguel Cotto weighed in @ 146 against.....

    Joshua Clottey
    Shane Mosley
    Zab Judah
    Alfonso Gomez

So 1 pound will make Cotto very weak and weight drained?
