You say this confidently as if Ali even has the ability to compete with a prime Tyson physically, if that were the case, then I'd be inclined to agree.

Yes, Lewis would do so and as easily as Tyson would just from a different stylistic stand point.

Apart from the low hands, he could keep his hands up if he felt it was necessary, why would Ali loose to Tyson?

Ali's defence is extremely leaky throughout his entire career, he often got hit with 'stupid shots'.

Ali's punching technique was flawed and he lacks the power to keep Tyson off of him.

Ali is vulnerable to the swarmer style, as Joe Frazier showed, who is not on the level of defence, movement, speed and timing as Tyson is.

Ali's jab is not good enough to set up other work against Tyson, Tyson will send a big straight right over it everytime.

And Ali's biggest advantage in his era, his speed, is not nearly as fast as Tyson's speed.

    It's a mismatch.

85-89, Tyson's competition level ranged from trash (Frazier, Ratliff, Zouski, Jaco, Scaff, etc. etc.) to old (Holmes) to physically & mentally out of his depth (Spinks).

Of course it's an improtant issue! Anyone can look great against sub-standard opposition.

What in that period in any way remotely compares to Ali??

Yeah right, Tyson is going send a big straight right over Ali's jab every time.

....with almost a 10" reach disadvantage! :patsch

Ali had great defense he usually did not get caught unless he was being "stupid" as you say. If he wanted to back peddel he would and could.

Ali was an undrated puncher who gained alot of power from catching his opponents on the way in.

He had great timing it was one of his biggest assets.

Ali did not have a good jab? :blood He had a great jab to break rhythm up it was extremly fast.

He is vunerable to swarmers, but I would see Tyson getting caught on the way in alot. With the Jab and fast if not hard straight right hands and Tyson has the worst mental fortitude vs physical ability ratio I have ever seen. He would loose it and get counterd to death.
