Been boxing from an early age, i was going places. That was until I in a street fight with some bum. I broke his nose and closed both his eyes. I must have hit him around 30 times and I was going in for the kill when from out of nowhere he hit me with one shot and KO'd me. Made an impression on me (literally), so I left gym shortly after and haven't boxed since.

Mike Tyson and all the talk surrounding him introduced me to the sport. Mosley when he fought DLH the first time is what made me a hardcore fan.

My first boxing memory was when I was around 10-11 years old. I remember flipping through the stations and stopping when I saw Muhammad Ali fighting. It was a documentary covering the early parts of his career. After watching it, I asked my parents to buy me a boxing book so I could learn about other boxers. The book included profiles on guys like Ali, Charles, Walcott, Tyson, Leonard, Hearns, Tunney, Hagler, Duran, Chavez, and Moore. It also contained little write-ups on some memorable fights such as Bowe-Holyfield 1, Holmes-Cooney, and Marciano-Walcott 1.

I've pretty much followed boxing ever since, though I really started paying close attention after watching the third Barrera-Morales fight. That's when I wanted to gain knowledge about each individual weight class. Still have a ways to go, especially when it comes to pre-1970s fighters and guys under bantamweight.

I'm basically hooked on boxing. It's by far my favorite sport.

As a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s there was no PPV nonsense and you didn't have to pay for cable television to watch fights on ABC Wide World of Sports (remember - the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat with the horrific ski jump crash in the opening credits) Anyway, I remember watching the fight between Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and Doo Koo Kim and found it to much more dramatic than any other sporting event I'd ever seen. I saw that this was more than just a game, more than mere sport. It was a clash of wills, a real life and death struggle. Watching that fight and seeing the tragic aftermath gave me the utmost respect for those who are brave enough to lace up the gloves, get in the ring, and put everything, including life itself on the line.

i'm not sure if this was the exact fight, but i remember watching boxing A LOT more after seeing the toney vs. jirov fight. i had already been boxing for about 5 years prior to that fight, but for some reason never got hardcore into watching it. i always watched the big fights in the mid-late 90's with my dad and friends and such, but for some reason, even though i loved participating in the sport and started training hardcore, i didn't watch all that much. so glad i finally got into it cause when i started watching a lot and studying different fighters and fights, my boxing improved 100 fold.
