imo these fighters, while recognized as greats, don't get the full respect they truly deserve. heavy - evander holyfield light heavy - tommy loughran middle - lloyd marshall welter - oscar de la hoya light - ike williams feather - salvador sanchez bantam - panama al brown fly - pancho villa
Nice shout out for Loughran.....but w/ the exception of those who picked Billy Conn to beat him in a hypo H2H, he really isn't that underrated.
I always thought Tony Zale at middleweight just for the reason that at the time a fight was trying to be planned between him and Ray Robinson and many thought Tony would win and so do i he was great
Heavy - Jack Sharkey Lt. Heavy - Victor Galindez Middle - Vito Antuofermo Jr. Middle - Ayub Kalule Welter - Angel Espada Jr. Welter - Eddie Perkins Light - Rodolfo Gonzalez Jr. Light - Kuniaki Shibata Feather - Ruben Olivares (at 126) Bantam - Chucho Castillo Fly - Venice Borkorsor

Lamotta, Turpin, Basilio and Fullmer, they all can beat SRR, but Tony Zale, that bum, he doesn't stand a snowball chance in hell :thumbsup
FFS Colonel, Fullmer and Basilio? Robinson was well past it when he came back in 1955 in his mid-30s after a nearly three-year retirement, and those fights occured even a couple years after that. He still got both of them in incredibly satisfying rematch wins. Those guys were great fighters yes, but the Wins are rated high especially due to circumstance and the stage of his career Robinson was in at the time. LaMotta had 16 lbs on him, and was stopped the only time he fought a legit MW version (the sixth time) though it's still a GREAT win for Jake regardless. Turpin, alright.
ok, i understand that sanchez is usually considered one of the greats of the division but i think he's one of the best fighters i've ever seen. i understand we never got to see the downside of his career but h2h at feather he is a complete beast.
I do know an older, lesser version of SRR lost to Basilio and Fullmer, but you made it sound like Zale doesn't belong in a ring with SRR. I don't think Zale is a lesser fighter than Turpin. and here, starting at 31:16, some interesting stuff about a potential Zale-SRR fight [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcMDraAEEvg[/ame]
:blood No I didn't, that was Bill Butcher! :deal Never said Zale wouldn't have a shot either, mayne. I was responding specifically to all the mentioned losses. :smoke
I always thought Greg Haugan is a bit underated, great tough battler who had his moment at the top along side some proper good fighters!
Somtimes you get a fighter who is a dominant force in a division for a significant period, who literaly falls off the map. Jeff Clark is such an example. He was a huge force at midleweight and light heavyweigh at his peak, seen as an uncrowned champion by many, but today he is forgotten.
