Liston and Tyson are getting a lot of love lately and Johnson is getting shitted on

Weaver wasnt considered a serious contender, in fact he had a 19-8 record going into the holmes fight. Without going into much detail Greg Page, Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tubbs, Michael Dokes, Tim Witherspoon Rematch, Gerrie Coetzee, were ALL considered serious threats to Larry Holmes....fights that Larry Holmes did not take on(though it can be argued he attempted to fight Coetzee)

Disagree. Tyson always knocks him out in under 5. Cus Damato built Tysons whole style to beat a guy like Holmes from a young age.....Larry would never EVER beat Mike.

Holmes would trouble liston greatly, but I think Liston wins a decision here..Liston would land the more telling blows during the fight. I think the jabs even out. Larry somewhere during the fight will get into a brawling match with Liston and Liston will hurt him. Larry will do his best work late in the fight, but Liston was an underrated technician, he has the goods to outmatch and outfight Larry at both long range and in close. Remember Larry struggled on the cards greatly against Aging Norton, embryo witherspoon, and Embryo Williams.

 

The only reason Tyson/Holmes went four rounds is because of Holmes' attempted strategy. He turtled with defense in the first three rounds to try to let Mike punch himself out, taking the edge off. Then when he finally tried some offense in the fourth, he was layed out.

The first three rounds were just a delay of the inevitable.

 

Spinks and Holmes were great champions.

And Holmes wasn't taking rounds off of Tyson either in their right, Tyson dominated.

 

Sonny Liston is in my top 3 with Louis and Ali.Like it has been metioned he cleaned out the division for several years.two losses to the (GREAT ONE} when his best years were behind him is not a reason to drop him..Sonny had a physique that was almost perfect for boxing.Unbeaten for ten years,he belongs in the top three.

I am not sure whether you are just having a laugh or whether you are just starting to research the older champions, but if you are serious, i would be very interested to hear the argument as to how Tommy Burns outranks Jim Jeffries!

Tommy Burns is an intresting pick i have heard him being mentioned as one of the worst champs but i do think he is underated but top 10?
