Liston and Tyson are getting a lot of love lately and Johnson is getting shitted on

There is no possible way Bob Fitzimmons and Tommy Burns could ever outrank James J Jeffries. Jeffries twice knocked out Fitzimmons, and if 5'7 168lb Tommy ever fought Jeffries...Jeffries would have stepped on him with his foot and smushed him for a early round knockout.

 

niceness doesn't count in the ring. Ingo was a nice guy but only a good fighter, liston and tyson were much better fighters.

 

Ketchell would have killed fitzsimmons too. Stanley is so underrated.

 

oops, thanks for the correction. I think it's possible that it has something to do with with how defiant and bold that jack johnson was. He was much more outspoken and daring than tyson and liston ever were and I think that people despise him for that, even though I think that he was a helluva man to the things that he did at a time where they were still lynching black men

Fitz would have stopped Ketchel,imo.Christ he twice beat SHARKEY by ko.Ketchel was a rough tough, top line banger at 160,Fitz kod very big heavies.As a past it untrained old un ,he ruined Jeffries face.He was a pin point puncher with real power all the way up to heavy.

 

P4p Fitz comfortably outranks Jeffries.imo.
He twice kod Sharkey ,the second time at the age of 37,something Jeffries couldnt do.
Beat Maher twice.
Beat Gardner for the LH title at the age of 40.
Drew with Choynsky.
Kod Ruhlin at the age of 37.
kod Corbett.
Kod Non Pariel Jack Dempsey to take the Middle Title.
Fought Jack Johnson when he was 45.
His losses to Jeffries werre when he was 36 and nearly 39.
Held 3 world titles .Fought his best challengers!

I have to agree with this. I really think Jeffries is over-rated, especially in the power department. I also think Johnson is vastly, confoundedly over-rated. They guys from around this era that most impress me are Langford and Fitzsimmons.

 

I was never a big fan of Fitz.But the fact that he didn't give Corbett a rematch bothered me.Corbett hung around to fight Jeffries.Jeff gave Fitz a rematch.Just always found in curious there was no rematch.I have read their was bad blood between Ruby Robert and Gentleman Jim before and after the fight.

 

he literally was the FIRST world heavyweight champ ..as he went all over the world defending his title ... i like him too cause he's a shorty ...

it's a personal choice ..MY rankings ... i don't give a damn about big jim because his whole career stages on that big race fight with jack johnson ...
