I watched a bit of Ali vs Liston in the What's my name doc on Ali. Liston was slow and wide open to be hit.
We had this debate awhile back. Marshall certainly claimed in the years that followed that he'd knocked Liston down in their second fight, but the only ringside report anyone's been able to find just describes him being knocked down four times himself. https://flic.kr/p/ZmpgJE
Mendoza I respect you but do you really think that you would stand a chance again prime and motivated Liston? I don't think so!He would have weight, strenght and reach advantage! The guy would beat me and you in the same ring without a doubt! Btw what's the deal with your ex trainer Pijetraj who talked some bad things in Croatian podcast?
Larry Holmes said he had three of his ribs broken sparring with Joe Frazier before Frazier's rematch with Ali.
That was Ali, the most athletically gifted Heavyweight in history as far as speed of hand and feet are concerned, and in his prime. Sometimes you got to look at who the opponent is before you make that assessment.
I go back and forth on Liston's chin. On one hand he wasn't hit by many punchers, Ali rocked him before he quit, and Martin had him out cold for 60 seconds. If you have not see Martin vs Liston, you should. I say he had a solid but far from great chin, and his mental fortudide didn't do him any favors.
Where can I read this in print from a legitimate source that Vitali was floored by Butler and Walker. Here's your chance to smear Vitali now go! Looking for a witness to say this happened or a clear verification by Butler or Walker, both of whom could hit.
He was wide open. Ali was the bigger man. Liston wasn't in there with a smaller, and slower guy to run over. Liston wasn't fast handed in the mid 1960's. Far from it.
Liston was comparable to most World Class heavyweights in history with hand and foot speed. Whitaker made Chavez Ramirez and Nelson look slow. Jone's Jr made damn near everyone he faced look stuck in 1st gear in his prime. Sometimes the talent or lack of talent (Mayweather Jr.'s opponents) of the opponent is the difference, and must be taken into account when making an assessment.
??? No, I don't think I'd stand a chance vs Liston, and he wouldn't have the height or weight advantage. What an odd reply.
Height was not big difference Ernie Terell was your size! Liston jab would give everyone problem because his reach of 84 inches!Height is not that important as reach and strenght!
Judging by how hard it was for Liston had to get 1st fight, I highly doubt their would've been a rematch had he lost.
