in the 9th round against Whitehurst in their 2nd bout. He connects almost all of them And in that round he managed to get tackled by a stunned Whitehurst. Dont know anything else about Whitehurst, other than he showed a LOT of heart in this fight. And Liston is a monster
Bert Whitehurst, tough and durable, and always in good shape. Muscular guy too. Not an easy guy to take out. Good interview with him in 1962, discussing Sonny Liston before his Title shot versus Floyd Patterson. Said, Sonny coud be hit with a left hook to the body, and that Sonny didn't like to be hit in the ribs. (Who does?) He stated, that when Sonny threw a long left jab, you could duck under it and if you shifted to your left just a bit, you could fire a left hook into the right side of Sonny's ribs, which were wide open. But you had to be quick, as to not let Sonny shoot a right upper-cut.
