Liston wins late, and one thing is for sure, he would not intimidate Ron.

Lyle hurts Liston early, just like Clevland Williams did, then gets beaten into a pulp, just like Clevland Williams did.

Very well thought out analysis. Impossible to argue with.

I think Lyle gets hit with that jab and can't get away from it. And nobody is walking thru that Liston jab. Lyle doesn't have the footwork or upper body movement to slip and slide and turn Liston to avoid getting hit with it And although Lyle would try to parry punches, he was never all that effective at it. He was no twinkletoes in there & sooner or later that great left hook off the jab will finish things when he's caught standing in front of Liston.

Twinkletoes was regarding the Lyle footwork. Lyle was a big hitter but had nowhere near the finishing skills of Liston. When Liston hurt guys they stayed hurt and the bout was usually over. One guy was a world class finisher and the other wasn't.

Lyle gets way too much credit IMO; he was fighting a mentally drained Foreman. A pre-Ali Foreman has Lyle out under 2 rounds.
Ron couldn't box a lick and, outside of Shavers, has zero quality wins. All the 'name' guys he beat were past prime and he couldn't even stop them.
Regarding this matchup, Lyle was a much slower starter than Big Cat and may not even be able to get into a rhythm against Sonny who's big jab would confuse Lyle from the start. Ron could only try to get inside the jab and slug with Sonny and how many heavies are going to get into a slugfest with Sonny and live to tell about it.
Liston brutal stoppage 4th or 5th.

Lyle was better than Clevland Williams but I saw him get beat up pretty bad to Quarry while Lyle was prime....Lyle looked like a monster vs Foreman but George was wide open and it was the first big slugger that George faced...Lyle looked great vs Shavers after Earnie ran out of gas...but other than that Lyle had average power....Sonny would have success with the Jab but this would be a close fight, I see it going the full route a close decision with both men getting rocked...both were not fast...I give Sonny the edge but would not be suprised to see it the other way around
