Ive asked numerous Williams nuthuggers if he was so fast and so hard punching why does he have zero KOs, and next no wins over ranked fighters. Its a simple question. If the guy was such a lock to beat Patterson why couldnt he beat guys who were a class or two below Patterson? Thats the elephant in the room here. And yes, I'll say again, go count the clean scoring punches he lands on Liston in this film. Nobody ever accused Liston of being a defensive cutie or a speedster and yet this supposedly fast Williams with a height advantage and comparable reach lands maybe five halfway decent punches on Liston before he capitulates in the SECOND ROUND just as soon as Liston starts throwing heat. Yeah, he was really something to fear...

Kinda like the people who want us to believe Williams was a killer but cant be bothered to name all of these rated contenders he stopped much less outpointed to get his daunting reputation...

    You're still on that?

Punching power=/=amazing h2h killer. There's a difference. No one with half a brain doubts the punching power of men like tua or shavers even though they lack a lot of the big wins or titles.

I dont recall anyone claiming Williams was a top 5 hardest hitter of all time or anything ridiculous.

Williams could bang. His sheer number of KO's and testimony of opponents are evidence of this. He does have at least one good stoppage over future belt holder Terrel. He just didn't have the tools to make the most use of his power nor was he the best finisher.

Oh and getting shot probably didnt help his career.

Who did Shavers ever KO? An elderly Norton and Ellis. Jimmy Young in his 7th pro bout? What about Lyle? Who did he ever stop? See where I'm going with this? Now answer my question (and by answer I meant directly address the question, not just post an entirely useless and irrelevant essay to change the subject) : Why was Williams called The Big Cat?

The thread addresses whether Williams was slow or not,not how good a contender he was.
That's is what I made it for and, as far as that goes, I think it has served its purpose.
You keep going off topic and telling us how he failed to perform up to your criteria, sorry but it has zero to do with his speed!
I believe objective observers would concede that Williams prime was cut short, and that consequently he faced very few ranked fighters.
Not facing them means ,to me at least, the jury is out as to how he would have fared with the likes of Folley,Patterson,Johannson.
At 71 I'm no nut hugger of any fighter, but I believe Williams had the potential to beat the three I have named. That does not mean he would have, just that it was a real possibility that he could have.
I would bet my house that neither D'Amato or Ahlquist ,the respective managers of Patterson and Johannson, would have entertained a match with Williams!

What round did Patterson happen to capitulate in, twice?

    His hand speed is okay.

His punch technique is pretty wild though. He wings his punches with little control or accuracy and loads up on the left hook and neglects the right hand, in this brief fight anyway. Compare his accuracy to Listons and it's night and day.

I will say that he was an amazing physical specimen (as was Sonny). The musculature and proportions of both men was very impressive pre-weight training and PED's. Compare their physiques to Ruiz, Fury, Whyte, Kowanacki and tell me again how the sport has evolved?
