I recall reading about Willi Besmanoff back in the 1960's. He fought practically all of the top contenders and usually got clobbered. I was curious about him so I looked up his boxing record. He actually had some wins over some respectable heavyweights namely Mike DeJohn, Alex Miteff, and Bob Baker. He also lost to DeJohn and Miteff. One thing that shocked me was that his record showed in 1963 he was knocked out in 3 rounds by Bob Foster and six days later he was back in the ring again being pounded and KO'd by Amos Johnson in 6 rounds. What stupidity to allow a fighter to take that kind of abuse. I also saw where Willi also lost to one Pete Rademacher. Remember him; the poor soul that they threw to the lions in his first pro fight against "The Rabbit", Floyd Patterson in a "title fight" . Then they turned around and handed what was left of Rademacher to Zora Folley in his very next fight. Need I mention that he got hammered in that one as well. Why is it that we fools love this sport?
