I think Liston is overrated AF and don't think as much of Bowe as some of his ball danglers do. Therefore I think I'm qualified to give an opinion. Frankly Liston seems technically better to me and his jab is going to give Bowe a lot of hassles. On the other hand Liston was not some master boxer that was hard to get to and I think that Bowe is going to mix it up sooner rather than later. Frankly I think their two defining performances dictate who would win: Liston crumbled before light-hitting Ali twice, whereas Bowe shipped incredible punishment against Golota and was ready to go to the death, it seemed. These two would put on a show, their styles mesh well for explosions. I think Bowe out-grits Liston in an epic fight.
Good hard fight between two very good heavys, Bowe puts the pressure on Liston imo but finds what's coming back to much. Liston gets shaken up a few times but is a brave but battered Bowe who's dropped several times in the mid fight. Sonny finally nails his man, to stop him in ten hectic rounds.
If we are talking primes Liston and it’s not close. Any other version of Liston that is not prime still gives Bowe a hard night but it’s more competitive.
Lol lot to take in here....Ali wasn’t a light hitter...kind of a myth. Secondly you’re talking about two of the best fighters to ever live top 15 at a minimum top five for the likes of Liston in some peoples eyes. I pick Liston at his best to beat Bowe. Probably by points.
This would resemble the Sonny Liston vs Eddie Machen fight on Sept 7 1960, which saw Liston win a unanimous 12 round decision. Riddick Bowe, who is taller than Liston would hang in their to box with Sonny, who could go the distance if he had to, without being gassed. Bowe took Holyfield's punches, and Liston took Cleveland Williams best. Liston trails early in the contest, but attains control by mid fight to score a unanimous decision in 12 rounds. The Liston's hook and jab spell the fight winning difference, while Riddick goes into panic mode, not being able to hurt The Bear.
Bowe from the first Holyfield fight would do a number on a old man Liston..........whats the best puncher Liston faced, Beanstick Williams who never won a meaningful fight.......7-8 rounds max until Liston gets stopped......Bowe will match him inside outside it would not matter plus I am not sold on the Ugly Bears chin...........totally washed up shot Bowe was never stopped by ONE punch from a can.
Bowe gets rocked more than once...but Bowe also was good at using his size to great advantage. Liston was a powerful looking man, and his punches backed that up. But Bowe was much bigger and at least as powerful in both the right hand and perhaps even the jab. The uppercut knocks Liston senseless and the ref has to stop it. 8 rounds.
The only thing that concerns me about Bowe is his lack of defense and his availability to be hit. And Liston was a hard hitter. Though Liston will himself never been in the ring with a super heavy as good and hard hitting as Bowe. I'd lean towards Liston, myself.
