Sonny Liston would destroy even this Douglas. Douglas was phenomenal that evening in Tokyo. However he beat an unmotivated unprepared out of shape Mike Tyson. Tyson nearly ended the fight with one punch. Douglas throughout his career was an underachiever. Liston was better before Ali. He had a ramrod devastating left jab, a long reach, good boxing skill, and power. He would smoke Douglas like a cheap cigar. This fight would not last 5 or 6 rounds. Liston would be all over Douglas like his shirt and easily win.
Liston was outreached against Ali and Cleveland Williams. Douglas was taller and had longer reach than both of them and than Liston, regardless of what the stats show. Douglas fought a far better opposition than Liston ever did, and won most of the times against it. Liston might have had a puncher's chance, but even in this department Douglas should be favored. Put Douglas against Liston's opposition, minus threatening his life against Ali, and he gets to be remembered as an unbeatable supernatural once in history phenomena. Douglas beats Liston more often than not.
