All I stated is I would pick Williams to ko Patterson head to head.

I know the time lines, Louis was champ when I was born.
I don't need a lesson in boxing chronology

well if you dont need reminding why say Williams did more to earn a shot than other Patterson chalengers? The time line reminded you williams did not. A kind of refresher course..WIlliams was not relevant during the Floyd-ingo era.

Bob Satterfeild bombed WIlliams out of contention years earlier. Since then Williams was treading water in utter mismatches in Miami as a forgoton veteran prospect untill Liston knocked him out again. During this time the obscure strangers Williams beat were unknown in their own homes. Williams never beat anyone curent. Why would he beat Floyd?

Are you writing my posts for me now? Where did I say Williams did more to earn a title shot? I've twice said I would pick him to ko Floyd,do you want it in capitals? Williams was a forgotten veteran after the Satterfield fight .He was 21years old ? Williams had beaten Agramonte ,who had formerly been rated Holman who was no 4 in 55 and Richardson, who would be rated.Obscure strangers bull****! Patterson never fought Williams for the same reason he never fought Satterfield who was top ten rated in two years of his reign, he was a dynamite puncher who might have shattered his glass jaw.

I can't see Big Cat beating Patterson, he had power, that is what he was known for but saying anyone with a punch could take Patterson is a disservice to what Liston did to him.

Someone mentioned that Liston was the only guy that clearly beat a near prime Big Cat, that's because Big Cat didn't get that many Big fights to begin with, he's a bit of an engima before he got gutted. Ingo certainly has better wins and looked a more polished finisher on film. Big Cat has the puncher's chance and I wouldn't be surprised if he dropped Floyd, but I can't favor him confidently to finish him off or secure a decision.

Satterfield was dangerous but Patterson would have probably beat him to the punch and wiped him out just as well. Either way, neither guy was ever in a position to fight Patterson and were too much of a risk to be took on as warm ups leading into the Ingo or Liston fights.

Exactly. Neither man was in a position to fight Patterson for the title. Nor had satterfeild or the mythical big cat ever shown any kind of form worthy of being given a chance against Floyd.

I think Patterson gets an unfair bad rap.

Why wasnt Satterfield in a position to fight Patterson he was rated no8 in 55 and no 6 in 56?
Williams did not get many big fights ? Why do you think that was?
I didn't say anyone with a punch, now you are doing a Choklab and typing my posts for me.I say a 6'3" 212lbs heavyweight with fast hands, who could hit like Williams was a stylistic night mare for Patterson who was floored by much lesser punchers such as Rademacher,Harris .

The two biggest punchers Patterson met kod him.

Each of those wins were unsatisfactory.

    1. Agromante. Ouch! Poor Argromante won just 4 of 13 since facing old Joe Louis was so on the skids, he was no longer curent.

2.Holman was rated back in 55' but by the time he met Williams he was 1-6 and could only beat a circus freak out of his last 7 fights. No longer curent.

    3. Richardson had already lost to erskine, pastrano, valdes and baker and had yet to register the kind of wins that later got him rated. Even so it was a DQ win because Richardson was butting. Williams was so intimidated by the rough Welshman he climbed out of a window to avoid meeting him again claiming he forgot his lucky shorts for their rematch.

However Williams was beating obscure strangers in Miami. some of whom had names like "Graveyard Walters".

The underlined sentence is just so puerile it tells me this isn't worth continuing.
Everyone and his dog in the UK knows that Richardson fouled out to save himself a beating. You said his opposition was unknown strangers I gave you three that were top ten rated at one time or another they were ALL KNOWN HEAVYWEIGHTS. You wriggle like an eel when corrected. this isnt going anywhere. Williams drew with Machen, stopped Holman and Terrell and as a last minute sub lost a split dec to Terrrell in a rematch. You are trying to portray him as Lamar Clark and its ridiculous.

-Patterson didn't fight any ranked heavies in 55 and was still mostly mixing it up with LHWs, so there's no need to zero in on Satterfield as an omission.

-In 56, Patterson took two tune ups and than entered the tournie for Marciano's vacant crown. It's pretty obvious why he fought #2 Jackson and #1 Moore for the HW crown, instead of chasing the sliding Satterfield, who would be out of the rankings after several damaging losses by year end anyway.

-I would imagine High Risk/Low Reward or just plan bad management.

    -He also KOed Ingo twice.

You seemed to imply that Floyd couldn't beat the best punches he faced, when in fact he beat one twice, regardless if he was floored or not. The third fight was a war between two lethal punchers and Patterson got the better of it.

Well 9 knockdowns sounds outrageous but that first fight was senselessly prolonged as typical for Swedish fights of the time, and would have been stopped by any sensible US ref, Patterson was clearly gone after the first or second knockdown.

My mistake, I was thinking of Ingo/Machen. No need for facepalm, its not like I mistook the fight for happening on the Moon.

Either way, Goldstein did a horrid job of protecting Patterson from himself, allowing 7 knockdowns in a single round when he clealry had no legs. Credit to Patterson for continously getting up despite being absolutely scrambled after the first shot. Using those 5-6 knockdowns as a dig agianst him is more facepalm worthy than my location slip.
