    Fair Enough .

I also agree that Mike would often beat Liston to the punch .

This fight would come down to who can endure the most and who wants it more .

All this stuff about Tyson's speed and ability to slip past Liston's jab every time is nonsense.

I saw Tyson getting hit by a journeyman Ribalta, and even an over-the-hill Pinklon Thomas hit him with jabs and one-twos. Both of whom lasted longer than the "five rounds" some said Liston couldn't last. Those guys had no power. Liston did have, lots more power, and MORE SKILL, and longer arms, and was at least as fast.

Williams was a dangerous fighter . He was way more superior than Buster douglas , that's for sure .

Just Like Tyson is way more superior than Marty Marshall .

This fight would be epic for us

Yet painful for both Mike and Sonny .

Superior in what way? Douglas beat HW world title holders Page, Berbick, and McCall. He beat Hall of Famer and Lineal HW Champ Mike Tyson, KO10. He outboxed Tucker prior to getting stopped in the 10th round, for the vacant IBF HW title.

Williams went 1-1 (1) vs. HW world title holder Terrell and he drew with Eddie Machen. To be honest, not much else worth mentioning except his out of the ring life and his early round stoppage losses to Satterfield, Liston x2, and Ali.

Yes, Douglas had a few bad performance prior to beating Tyson but most nights he was very good and better than Williams in my opinion.

Even after his awful loss to Holyfield he came back almost 6 years later and went 8-1 (5) before calling it quits for good. The level of opponents he faced after Holyfield were as good as most of the fighters Williams faced in his prime. The loss was a quick one to Lou Savarese, LKOby1, who went on to beat Lance Whitaker, drop a decision to Michael Grant, and get beat by Mike Tyson, LKOby1.

Against Patterson Liston was 213 and 215 lbs for 6'0.5"
The Berbick version Tyson was 221.25 for 5'10".
This is big difference when we talk about quality muscle mass.
Basically Tyson was the bigger but Liston was the longer.
But otherwise the prime Tyson wasn't into the weightlifting at all.
(Otherwise in the steroid era everybody can be strong.
No way the 60s athletes could use "better" PED than the 80s.)
The 80s weightlifters were the strongest ever. And Tyson fought in this era (Ben Johnson the sprinter etc.).
I think it's a big chance Tyson,Bruno,Smith,Ruddock etc. were much more
stronger than Liston. Plus Liston moved like a slow tank from the first world war. The prime Ali wasn't much more lighter than Liston but
his footwork was lightning fast. This proves Liston wasn't so strong.
He couldn't move well with about a 215 pounds body.
    Otherwise the 221 pounds 5'10" Tyson could outjab/reach a 6'5" 221 pounds
ripped fast target Tucker.Without big explosive power this impossible.

Helluva fight! I do believe Liston would be Tyson's toughest opponent next to Ali and possibly Ridd1ck Bowe. I'm still leaning towards Iron Mike proving himself to be the bigger bully with his speed, work rate and defense being the deciding factors.

I'd just like to add that a match between Joe Louis and Sonny Liston would go down as the greatest heavyweight Super Bout of them all. Dempsey-Marciano, Ali-Tyson, Holmes-Foreman and Bowe-Lewis belong there as well.

Liston vs Tyson? Is this even a thread??

Sonny would make Mike look like a scared child. A hospitalized, traumatized scared child on the wrong end of a severe beating.

A 180.5 pounds bum beat the 204 pounds Liston who suffered a
    broken jaw.Liston was a overrated bum-beater buffoon.
Sonny would make a 3 years old Mike look like a scared child.

By the way Tyson was 276 lbs before the Carl Williams fight(1989).
Tyson wasn't bulked just his fighting weight was much more lighter
than his normal weight.Considering the prime Tyson wasn't into the
weightlifting at all.Basically he trained his neck plus boxing/running/
    sparring and that's all.
The typical bulked fighter was Evander.

Oh that is ridiculous Thomas had big time power especially with that jab, he was big and bad but....had drug problems but don't take away from his abilities. 6'3" and a solid 220 c'mon he was one of those coulda shouldas.

Ribalta fight was a style makes fights and he was a good tricky tough fighter.

Tyson would have killed Liston he was too fast, hit too hard I am sure harder than Williams and he was a prime rock solid 218lbs not a cruiserweight like many of Listons opponents which seemed to add to his myth of insane power. Foreman was still a kid when he sparred Liston had that been the physically matured Foreman of the 70's when his coordination and strength had come together he would have destroyed him as well.

Tyson was a powerful, super quick well schooled fighter give him some credit. Liston could not manhandle a 5'11" fireplug powerhouse like Mike, and he didn't have the power of a Ruddock or Lewis hit for hit. It took Lewis 8 rounds of hitting a completely shot self loathing Tyson at will and watch those right hands hit Mike and his shock absorber neck barely move and when Mike was tired of the fight he went down with clear eyes.....you think 6'1" 215 lb Liston hit as hard shot for shot than 6'5" 235 lb Lewis? Imagine if Lennox fought in Listons era of cruiserweight size heavyweight contenders.

Now see its those damn unrealistic pro Liston anti Tyson posts that makes fans HAVE to put perspective on a great fighter like a Liston. We don't want to beat the guy down but he was a fighter who came around when the dominant heavyweight fighters were cruisers with a few 200+ lbrs smattered in there. He was a freak of nature for the time and a phenom in the early 60's by the late 60's bigger heavies had started to take over the division. Any of the good big heavies from the 70's on til current day would have been superstars in Liston's time.

Thats correct , just like a Floyd Patterson

Patterson with much faster hands than Tyson and
equivalent bobbing and weaving beats Liston easy.

Liston landed not even a single punch on Patterson.

    Oh....wait....
