Liston Was Supposed To Fight Chuvalo Before His Death

    Had they fought in the last days of Sonny's career, Chuvalo might very well have made it to the cards, but I still wouldn't favor him to win... If Leotis Martin could weather the first few harsh rounds to beat an aged Liston, and chuck Wepner take him to the 10th, then I'll give Chuvalo the benefit of the doubt that he could have survived THIS version...

    I think a well trained but aging Liston in 1970 was still able to hammer a limited but rugged foe like George Chuvalo........ Liston would've won......

    Scrap Iron Johnson showed that Liston could be backed up at that late stage of Sonny's career, but to no avail. Chuvalo would stay on his feet over the distance, but there'd be no debate as to who the winner was at the end.
